Aren't these seats the biggest ripoff in the world. I flew SYD-MEL last Tuesday at 0600 in the plush old velour seat and back on Friday afternnon on a special at 1540. The new seats are no better than economy. No footrest even. what's the point of that?

What's going on at AN for them to have let something comparable to economy seating to be used in business class?

Rest assured, you are not alone.

I did workexperience at Ansett during the Olympics in Customer Relations, and almost a year after the "initiative" was launched (cabin refit), there are still complaints trickling in.

To list some. J Class seats, cannot adjust headrest, feel little more than beefed up Y seats, feel cramped, middle table too low, generally feel as being ripped off. Y Class, non existant seat pitch, when seats are reclined, there is a severe encroachment of personal space, you feel as if you are in a "dogbox" if you are sitting in the first few rows of Y (best customers sit there) because of the new cabin divider, seats too hard. In row 6 there is no window (there was no such thing as a windowless window seat in the previous config). Many high value customers have threatened to go to QF - even though their product is the same type of convertible seat. I think AN got it really wrong. Their logic is that they need an extra 0.5 people on per flight to make the program breakeven, but what they forget is that if they lose just one J class passenger, all will basically be lost.

What does the program actually consist of: An extra row of seats in the cabin (from 20 to 21rows), reduction in J class size from 6 to 4 rows, new LCD screens in J class, new seats in Y (with 4way adjustable headrests) and J (interesting how you can adjust in Y, but not in J), a cabin divider and bulkhead paintings.

J Class seats are supposed to be at 35" with Y Class seats at 31" (some rows 32", EE row 36"). But I have been told, for some J rows, there is less than 35" - I'd be inclined to believe you.

I would recommend that you write to AN Customer Relations. Let them know.

Cheers,

Justin

Lucked out this morning and got row 6 by the "window". That'll teach me for not looking at your post earlier. I have Platinum status so always get up front. For some reason my agent left my Global Rewards number out and hey presto at full eceonomy you find yourself down the back of the plane, except for 6F being available. Is this "window" seat not allocated for obvious reasons.

Seeing you are platinum, write to AN Customer Relations, and you'll get special treatment from the "Business Recovery Consultant". Trust me, you'll get better service that way, and it will be interesting to see what they say.

Cheers,

Justin

It's all about:

1/ Earning more revenue by adding an additional row of seats.

2/ Giving the customer more seats on each flight (B737's) - 'high value customers' (Diamond/Platinum - Star Gold/Silver) complained that there are never enough seats when they want to fly.

Because of this reason AN put in the B737's a new type of 'Sicma' seat, which can be configured in all Y/c or up to 16 J/c seats & 98 Y/c seats.
Yes unfortunately the new seats don't have leg rests & are not as comfortable as the old seats!

So the trade-off seems to have been, provide more seats, lose some comfort!

Needless to say to re-fit of the B767's & A320's is on hold!

Cheers

Why don't ansett trade in all there 737s for the bigger A321. That will give them more capacity for the passengers who want more seats availabe with the extra room.
Maybe that will cost to much.

Why fly non stop when you can connect

BNE,

Ansett actually had some orders for the 321, but they were converted for 5 A320s in the early 90s.

One of Ansett's main justifications was that it had a very roomy configuration for the flight sector length. Only 114 seats, however what AN forgets is that it flies 4.5hr sectors, such as SYD-DRW (Darwin) with the 733.

Unfortunatly, AN is too poor in no uncertain terms. A fleet overhaul is due.

Cheers,

Justin
