VS Code Share With SQ For Flights To Syd / Oz

On my way back from Singapore last week - I noticed VS has started code sharing with SQ on flights to Australia/Syd? When did this start happening? Does anyone have any info on this?

Does this mean their current LHR-HKG-SYD are not profitable? And they will be discontinuing these flights? Or is this an additional flight(s) to Australia/Syd?

Cheers

Code-share went into effect since 01DEC06.

No it doesn't mean their SYD run is not profitable, but rather giving more options because they only have limited seats for the HKG-SYD leg.

Is the codeshare to SYD only, or all Australian ports.

Given the DJ network in Australia, I would be surprised if VS didn't try to codeshare on all of SQ's network, especially BNE and MEL.

Does anyone have the latest info on this? The additional LHR-HKG flight was supposed to ensure this would fly with much higher loads but that flight was cancelled.

I was under the impression it was the LHR-HKG leg that was full?

That's correct.
LHR-HKG was full, but the HKG-SYD sector was the issue.
Perhaps VS brings overflow traffic from LHR in via SIN, then pushes them out via HKG when possible.

It's better than not have seats available, and pax turning to other carriers altogether!

So you mean people will fly LHR-SIN-HKG-SYD? I guess that will be a lost for VS.

With the SQ owning about 49% of VS, I'm sure SQ is finding a way to make a profit out of this code-sharing endeavour

I doubt that. If they can't get you on a VS plane via HKG you'll go on SQ via SIN.
Do VS even serve SIN with their own metal?

I think VS flights to SIN are on SQ metal...

Yes, I believe its on SQ Metal - In my last 9 trips to SIN in the last couple of years I have never seen VS anywhere in SIN.

Maybe this was part of the deal when SQ bought into VS that SQ will be the only of the two flying this route? Can't be sure though...

And yes, SIN-LHR SQ flights are code-shared with VS on SQ Metal...
