The Board of Directors will reduce the Medium Haul activities from 8 to 5 aircrafts, interrupt the A319 CJ activity and sub lease the fifth
A330 aircraft, to be delivered next spring.
Regarding MiMa - Milano-Manhattan activity, the 48 seats “All Business” from Milan to New York flight operated by the Airbus A319, the Board of Directors decided to suspend the activity starting from the 8th February 2007.

I wonder if this goes to show that Italy is getting oversaturated with routes to New York. On another forum one mentions that routes from destinations outside Rome, Milan and Venice may have good loads but lose tons of money because the regional routes dont carry premium traffic.

I think that is actually a very good question you raise: I don't know of any other country (other than the UK maybe) which has so many routes to JFK from almost regional airports as Italy does: I've always wondered what the business case behind them was.

Quoting Humberside (Reply 1): Havent Eurofly just announced Pescara-JFK?
Yes one of the more idiotic routes they will be flying this year. Im curious to see what the loads will be, especially on the regional routes. I wonder if this year will be a wake up call many carriers are adding capacity between JFK-Italy.

Only LHR, LGW, STN and MAN have JFK flights. Most UK-NYC flights are to EWR. Therefore Italy is probably the country with the most routes from JFK

GJ was not even supposed to open the C-class only flight MiMa since there were no market conditions to operate the flight.
This only happens when people in charge to run small airlines do not have a proper managerial experience in the industry, and Italy is the case.
I did a consulting for another Italian airline which was willing to start the same service (C-class only) ad asked me to provide an analysis and, of course, the first thing that i told them during the Board meeting was ... "forget about this project as it would only turn to be a bloodbath in terms of profits"

Most UK - New York flights are to JFK, where BA has a terminal. Where the Concorde went and where Virgin Atlantic has 4 flight daily from LHR. AA has six dailt to JFk from LHR too.

I don't think the NYC-Italy market is over-saturated. The problem here is that Italy is largely a leisure destination and not a top business destination the way London and Paris are. Yes, Milan is Italy's financial hub and the heart of the fashion industry and the industrial North, but there just isn't the type of traffic of bankers, lawyers, and creatives that head to MXP as often as there are to LHR, CDG, or for that mater, LTN or STN.
