I was just looking through some of my old Holiday videos when i came across a clip of me boarding an aircraft with the reg: G-BYAG, with me frequenting aviation websites often just like this one, i typed the reg number in and found out it was the one that sadly skidded off the runway at Girona in spain a few years back, i am saddened i have actually boarded an aircraft that is no longer with us.

Cool video.

I left you a comment on youtube. Click on my youtube profile to see some of my similar (but shorter) videos, including one of a B707 take-off window view.

Many thanks for sharing your vid.

If it's one thing I hate it's leaving somewhere sunny and landing somewhere where the weather is pants!

Thanks, seems like an interesting case, was the pilot struck off? It sounded as though he was partly to blame

I picked one of the pax up from CWL,who came back on the special charter aicraft.
It was all cloak and dagger stuff, and obviously BY did'nt want the press talking to pax.
This gent got into my vehicle via the last exit door at CWL,and some pain in the a**e reporters were subsequently, getting into my vehicle from the other side of the car.
They were quickly ejected, and we left the airport.
I was asking the gent what actually happened, and he said it was only when he saw the sky through the cabin roof, that he actually realised they had crashed.
He remembers that it was just a heavy landing, and as far as he was aware, they were on the runway.
He did say, that on exiting the aircraft, they could see the emergency vehicles driving back and forth along the perimeter road, but they were'nt located for a good 30+ minutes.

Every so often this accident is still mentioned in the local Welsh news with survivors describing the unfortunate events as they occurred. It must be shocking to be on your way to a holiday only to find yourself in a plane crash. Thank goodness no lives were lost.

I have also flown on another Airliner that is no longer with us: Virgin atlantic Boeing 747-123 (G-VMIA).
it has changed its name and carrier a few times, when i flew on her she was called MIAMI MAIDEN, then she was called the Queen of the sky and then The spirit of sir freddie.

Unfortunately an 84yr old gentleman, who suffered some severe (undiagnosed) injuries in the crash, died just a couple of days after the accident from a heart attack.

The Coroner at the inquest recorded a verdict of 'accidental death' and said the injuries suffered in the accident were of 'great significance' regarding his death.

Therefore, it isn't true that no lives were lost.

You are correct that there were no fatalities on the aircraft - though earlier in the thread you said 'on the flight' - this is not the same thing.

The actual report - by which I take you mean the findings of the investigations carried out by the Spanish Air Accidents Investigation Commission, does refer to the fatality. Note that there was no AAIB report on this accident, other than a brief bulletin after the accident.

The death is not commonly reported upon, and therefore it's of no suprise that you weren't aware of it.

That the aircraft crashed subsequently is no reason for you not to post your YouTube video. It brought back pleasant memories of holidays in Ibiza.

Given the severity of the accident we should be grateful there were not more deaths - however many of the passengers have suffered long term effects as result of the crash.
