Does anyone know if this aircraft has been "nicknamed" yet?

I dunno, but she is one sweet looking mother. Knowing Austrians good reputation for good names, it will be a good one.

I think "Freddy Mercury" has already been used by them. Maybe "Neil Amstrong"? You're quite right, she is a beauty!  Wink

Rob... Thank you! And I may be a bit biased here, but I do think the name is terrific!

Yes she is a beauty, but I don't think it will be so beautiful to be seated in the economy cabin. The rows will be 3x4x3  alert   banghead

Did VIE-KUL-SYD in coach in Y-class three months ago, it is indeed VERY cramped. Although its 3 X 4 X 3 like EK, they did not add the extra inches in the seat pitch like EK does. So whenever the guy in front of you reclines his seat......

With flights to Australia ending soon, wonder if Austrian has plans to rename their three 777s from Melbourne, Sydney and Don Bradman??

Perhaps into Madonna, Celine Dion and Tiger Woods ???!!!

Too funny. Or Denzel Washington, Snoop Dog, Jamie Fox.

I wish they did add three extra inches and take out one row to make economy more roomier. How bout adding E+.

Iwill be flying VIE-BKK in May, when I booked, checkmytrip showed me the 3x3x3 layout, first cabin of Y on the old 777's, suddenly it changed to 3x4x3, so I thougt she would fly to BKK too?

Quite a normal config for 777 cabins though;
e.g. KL and JL also have 3-4-3 in Y on their 772's

According to KLM, they have 3-3-3 in Y class...

http://www.klm.com/travel/de_de/trav..._board/seating_plans/777-200ER.htm

... and I'd be surprised if JL has 3-4-3 on their longhaul 777s and not just the domestic/regional ones.

For all those coming up with creative names, keep in mind that it was Lauda who named planes after people; Austrian uses placenames (continents, cities, countries, ...).

Yeah sorry here, JL's international 777's indeed fly 3-3-3 in Y. I just took this from my memory, but in fact I was wrong here  Sad

Frank, as always, your obsevations and facts are among the most accurate and informative on A.net. Thank you again my friend.
As was pointed out by Rob, she will be named "America" although I don't see the name painted under the side facing cockpit windows as is usually the case for Austrian. I'm wondering if Boeing will do that pre-delivery or will it be done at a later time. I'm sure that AUA is anxious to get her into revenue service as quickly as possible.
