Rumor: JetBlue To MHT

Today I was working on a US flight from MHT to LGA and I saw a JetBlue Executive, who I think was a B6 exec. getting on board, he was with 2 B6 crew member's.


I know there is gate 10 at MHT that is unoccupied, it was Independence Air.


So two question's.

Anyone have a pic. of B6 exec's and also do you think they would just fly MHT-JFK for connections.


Who cares about status?

Could just be crew members commuting back to work in NYC after a weekend of skiing in NH. Crew members are not typically part of the mgmt team that are actively involved in selecting new stations.

While i wouldnt be shocked.... airports and airlines meet quite frequently, heck I drove two US scheduling people back to their hotel when i worked at DAB when the airport hosted them! I would think that if it was signing on the dotted line that they would have been more descrete about it.

It could have been something as simple as then going to speak at Daniel Webster or something....

As is OAK, but they are going to fly from SFO, too close to OAK.

Same can be said of LGA, EWR, SWF, and HPN vis-a-vis JFK.

Maybe they are trying to offer service from both major airports to Boston / NH area.

Well, it's not exactly clear to me how interested they might be in serving MHT given that yields on MHT-TPA and MHT-MCO run about 20% lower than yields on BOS-TPA and BOS-MCO. Yields from MHT to FLL, RSW, and PBI are comparable to yields from BOS to all three markets, so they'd have to come in with lower fares in order to stimulate additional traffic. I can perhaps see them flying MHT-JFK, but I don't know if they want to get into a fight with WN over MHT-Florida.

My sentiments exactly. While Neeleman has spoken favorably of Manchester in the press, I'm sure he's done the same regarding many other cities. As a long-time MHT booster, I've learned--especially post-9/11--to expect the worst and hope for the best.

I'll be on jetBlue tomorrow--the E190 nonstop from Boston to RDU. I'll ping anyone I can talk with and see what's up. The rank-and-file often don't know much (not meant as a slight to them), so we'll see what kind of reaction the word 'Manchester' gets. Probably not much, but ya never know.

Not even close to being the same travel wise. MHT grew directly to take business away from BOS. With jetBlue's market out of BOS they can offer no new cities that would make it worth picking one city over the other..

To be fair and accurate, MHT grew to take its own market back. Portions of southern NH are actually part of the Boston metro area and over the decades (say, mid-1980s -->) the region has been a magnet to companies and residents alike. While it's not inaccurate to say that MHT took business away from BOS, the real way to look at it is that MHT was finally able to serve its own market with its own airport. Population and job-growth outlooks still look bullish, with NH leading all six New England states in both categories.

Any ideas on how many passengers living in Northern N.H, that MHT might draw away from BTV? Just something else to think about

Excellent point. I agree that MHT would cannibalize the fragile PWM market. I say 'fragile' because it is: Between Labor Day and Memorial Day, the airport doesn't do all that well. It's an exceptionally seasonal place. So add MHT to the mix and jetBlue does themselves a disservice at PWM. Stack that atop the incumbent dominance by Southwest here and you have a perfect recipe for B6 to not come here. And, yes, jetBlue does have bigger fish to fry than MHT. That really wasn't up for debate. We kinda already understand that.
