This should be interesting..Is the service area of RDM big enough to support this, I'm guessing it will be two flights a week?

Is the service area of RDM big enough to support this,

The Redmond/Bend area population is about 150,000. Basically the same size as many other Allegiant cities.

I just text messaged a couple of my friends who are from Eugene to tell them about this service. BTW, would EUG be considered "too big" for G4? Only 1 other airline (US) does nonstop service LAS-EUG, and that's only 3 redeyes a week (currently). I'm sure there's plenty of gaps for them to fill for that market, and if my current knowledge of Oregon geography is correct, isn't EUG more of the population center for central Oregon than RDM?

The Eugene area is about twice the population of the Redmond/Bend area. I don't think too big but rather is there room on a EUG route for another carrier?

US is operating 3 CR9s a week on EUG-LAS. Would the market support another 300 seats a week. I don't know.

Wow! Great news for RDM, I visited there in 2005, when it had just the UA EMB-120s, QX Dash-8-200s, and DL CRJ-200s... Then a couple months ago, it got the QX Dash-8-400 flight to LAX, and now an Allegiant MD-80?!

Very nice...

I can say that being a former mesa employee in EUG, that the routes from there to LAS are NEVER full...a full night for us there was 55pax, it was my favourite flight to work during the summer because it would just be cooling off outside. THe plane would usually bring in atleast 75 from PHX, but outbound rarely more than 35, plus we had a good 55mins usually to turn it, and with four people thats a cake walk on the 900.

When did they switch to the -900? I know in Aug 2005, I flew to LAS and in both directions it was a -200 and packed.

I think you've also got to look at the market they are going to serve. Bend is rapidly becominging an Aspen prototype and is attracting some very rich people. The housing market down there alone is outrageous. So people there have money.

A little more media speculation that Thursday's press conference at RDM will announce Allegiant.

A new airline could be coming to Redmond Airport with direct service to Las Vegas.

Central Oregon tourism and Redmond Airport officials have called a press conference for Thursday morning. Although Airport Manager Carrie Novick declined to comment on details of the event, officials from both airlines now serving Redmond said they have heard unconfirmed reports from airport management of Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air beginning service to Central Oregon.

"I know (Allegiant) has contacted Carrie numerous times," said Kim Falco, manager of SkyWest Airlines at Redmond Airport.

With all of the regional jet service to RDM its going to be unique to see larger aircraft there.

If memory serves me there is a lot government travel to RDM. The Forestry Service has a wild fire training center and a smoke jumper school forward operating base there.

If you see shots of RDM on A.net actually, you'll see ALL the shots are of the fire aircraft... AFAIK, there is no shot of a commercial airliner at RDM. Funny, huh?

One of the trends Allegiant has seen in some cities is larger than expected numbers OUT of the focus city to a smaller city.

I could see possibilities for the resorts around Mt. Bachelor to advertise this service in Las Vegas to get people to visit the Redmond/Bend area. Skiing, summer outdoor activities, etc. in a different location might be appealing to some.

Here is the TV news coverage at Redmond today.

I have to say this is good for Oregon to finally join the Allegiant family and getting both Redmond and Medford announced on the same day.
