National Air services of Saoudi Arabia will sign a deal in the next few weeks for 19 aircraft in the 160 to 180 seat category. NAS is reportedly to be talking to both Boeing and Airbus. With these aircraft NAS will start up a low-cost airline in Saoudi Arabia.

NAS has ordered a fleet of A318 'Elite' aircraft and operates A320 'Prestige' aircraft, recently it also took delivery of the world's longest VIP aircraft in the form of a A340-600. Now, which way will the above order swing???

Although their current fleet would suggest the contrary

If they bought Airbus, would the USA stop buying oil from them? Would we stop demanding they crack down on terrorists but not do much about putting teeth behind those demands?

The order should go to Airbus because it makes sense based on their current products, and because for a new carrier, the A320 usually has the edge...

There is much more to Saudi - US relations than that. But that is for non-aviation forum discussion.

Looking at NAS current fleet build up and ordered aircraft, I'd put my money on an Airbus order. NAS isn't Saoudi Arabian Airlines.
