Just saw that Compass Airlines has their website up and running in standard NWA graphics, an E175 in NWA colors, and they are hiring.....

I guess this might end the threads about NWA just using Compass as a bargining chip. No sense in putting a website up, after completing your agreements with Pinnacle and Mesaba anyway..

Well, it seems they got the compassairline.com domain name about 14 months ago.

Very nice. I love the paint job on the E-175 in the corner.

So... Might be an easy question to answer but why is it based in VA?
Does it have to deal with its certificate and the previous holders of that certificate?

Could this mean that NW could be looking to build up east coast and south east operations?

Yes...I am not a KIX fan. Let's Japanese Aviation!

Yup, NWA purchased the Independence Airlines operating certificate (or what exactly that document is called) and Independence Airlines was hubbed in IAD.

There are also a number of FlyI execs starting Compass up. That may have something to do with basing the carrier in the DC area.

Somehow I doubt that. There looks to be only five people left over from the FLYi days, and I don't think being officially located in Virginia probably has much to do anything.

If I had to guess, I would say NWA is interested in keeping some sort of office near D.C. for lobbying purposes, it is probably easier transferring the certificate with the local FAA office that you have already dealt with, and it is good to be near the FAA Central Command Office.

There's simply no need to transfer the certificate, regardless of how little it would cost.

ZW is headquartered in ATW, where they no longer fly.

RP is headquartered in IND. That's a station, but not a real large one.

OO is headquartered in St. George, Utah. They do fly 120s to SGU, but...

Any word on future destinations? I am kind of hoping they will have a LAN-IAD. Compass would be the perfect fit for it, IMHO. Would love to see an E-175 here in LAN.

Northwest has had an office in Washington for years so it does not need another one for lobbying purposes.
