Was just browsing a gadget site and stumbled upon this video. It's pretty interesting! Looks like one hell of an IFE system!

It'll be great on the ground as I'm not sure that Virgin America is ever going to get off the ground!

Quite true, but this could be something other airlines would look at putting into their aircraft could it not!?!?  Smile

Why?..........most passengers are looking for the cheapest fare are they not (Southwest springs to mind)...not who has the most Carlos Fandango IFE system on board!

It uses Dish Network (Echostar) and their new Dish Mobile service, similar to DirecTV, in that it doesn't require a satellite dish, but instead can use a flat antenna and works while moving.

I'm not making any point about fare prices... I was merely pointing out that if Virgin America didn't manage to take off... what the video shows could be a possible system for other airlines to adopt in the future, something which could enhance the passenger experience.

That sure looks like an amazing system. I wonder how well the touchscreens will work after a few years of service though.

As long as the number of take-offs equals the number of landings...you're doing fine.

 checkmark

I've always questioned the logic of starting a new airline, even as much of a fan as I am of the Virgin brand. With WN's re-entering the SFO market, I fear it may never happen, but I guess thats in about 15 other threads already. Yes, the IFE is nice.

This week's DIGGnation was taped on board one of Virgin America's A320s (on the ground on at SFO). They also show some stuff about the airliner off at the beginning of the episode (IFE, mood lights).

There is also a contest to be on a flight from JFK to SFO and they're going to be taping a live episode of diggnation on the flight.

Yes, but other people are also looking for an enjoyable time on a long flight... it's not always about trying to save a little money.
