E190 In Continental Livery Minus The Tail

E190 in Continental Livery Minus the Tail


I saw the photos and thought wow, so that's what an E190 would look like in Continental Livery for the most part. This airline has same color scheme, font, and a globe on the tail which is all similar to Continental.

I also know COPA has a livery just like Continental.

So this photo makes me think of some questions?

1) How many airlines are flying around with livery just like Continental?
2) Is Continental ok with this or does Continental have to approve another airline using their livery?
3) I have not seen other airlines coping American, Delta, or United livery, so I'm wondering is there some sort of protection or trademark infringement if one airline copies another airline livery?
4) I also went to their website (http://www.aerorepublica.com ) and it looks like Continental with OnePass and other things that Continental uses. Does Continental have any ownership in this airline?

Continental is a part owner in Copa... so yes, they are very ok with it.

Four, Continental, Continental Micronesia, Copa Airlines (Panama) and AeroRepublica (Colombia)

In 199* Continental bought 49% of CM and CM's planes and corporate image were based on CO's. CM went public in '05 and CO has sold in NYSE their shares of CM (reduced their ownership to just 12% non controlling) for a very nice return on their investment. Most people agree CO will eventually dives completly from CM but they have a rock solid relationship that is guaranteed untill at least 2015 (OnePass and livery and all of that)

They have an agreement signed untill 2015 extendable at CM's discression for another 15 years I believe. CM has first right to extend this marketing agreement, wich basically means CO cant refuse to extend it.

AeroRepublica (P5) was purchased in 2005 by CM to expand its Colombian precense. P5 being a fully owned subsidiary of CM has the right to have the same livery. This livery and the one pass program will also remain in P5 for as long as CM has the agreement with CO

CO was brilliant when they purchased CM, they bout a small national airline and expanded it into the largest airline in its region, with a huge dominance in the market and a great product with a very modern fleet. CM plans to do the same with P5, P5 will eventually be (IMHO) fully merged into CM (I think the name P5 will eventually dissapear). But this is just my opinion and CM has denied this will happen (for now).

A very, very, very nice return on their investment!

Copa's stock price [NYSE:CPA] closed last Friday at USD 63.05 per share, and has appreciated over 185% over the past year! Since Copa's initial public offering in December 2005, its stock price has appreciated 215%.

Copa's current market capitalization is a whopping USD 2.7 billion and it trades at over 19x FV / LTM EBITDA; a fabulous valuation for an airline.

Continental still maintains a minority 4.375 million shareholding in Copa, or approximately 10.2% of the company. At current trading levels, CO's stake is worth USD 275 million, a nice chuck of change in the bank for whatever need it may have in the future.

Continental sold-off most of its position in Copa at the IPO and again last summer and used the cash proceeds to fund the deficit in its employee pension fund.

Of course, Continental's financial dealings with Copa do not even begin to describe the tremendous marketing and business value both companies have to each other. CM's regional network and CO's global routes complement each other extrememly well and Copa has grown tremendously [and vice-versa] thanks to its relationship with CO. CM's entry into SkyTeam as an associate member sponsored by CO will also provide future benefits for both carriers.
