Regular Freighter Services To Australasia?

Do FedEx and UPS run regular scheduled freighter services to Australia / New Zealand? Or is this freight carried as belly cargo in pax a/c? Any other regular freighter operations to these countries, and any schedules available?

Fedex and UPS both run 5 weekly MD 11's to SYD.

All flights operate via Asian ports on the outbound legs.

Australia gets lots of Freighter flights in, including Fedex, UPS, Singapore Cargo (also MEL/ADL), Cathay Cargo, Martinair, MasKargo. Qantas cargo is flown by Atlas Air using Qantas callsigns. I think we used to get Korean Air Cargo but not sure if they still fly into Sydney.

The Fedex inbound is Flight 77, and operates MEM-LAX-HNL-SYD.
UPS MD-11 inbound is flight 32, and operates from Mainland USA (not sure but I suspect it starts in Louisville and may stop enroute in ONT) then certainly HNL-SYD.

As well as a DHL 727 AKL-SYD (operated by Asian Express Airlines)

Sorry I don't have the schedules at the moment but all are available from the above websites, except Fedex and UPS they don't print theirs, but I recommend you use flightaware they can be of some assistance to arrival times in Sydney.

We get Atlas, CargoLux, DHL, Singapore Cargo just to name afew...AirNZ operate one of these freighters, the same as QF, with their callsign...

Thanks- interesting. I'm aware of the various levels of "freedoms" that afftect pax carriers and regulate what foreign carriers can and can't do in other countries. Are dedicated cargo carriers not subject to these same limitations?

Yes, just like passenger services, scheduled cargo services by dedicated freighter aircraft are operated under inter-government air services agreements which exchange the various "freedoms of the air" .

However, sometimes countries are prepared to be more liberal with respect to exchanging rights for cargo-only services. For example:
- the model US "open skies" agreement includes an exchange of seventh freedom cargo rights but not seventh freedom passenger rights
- Australia has "open skies" arrangements with the US for cargo services only (not passenger services)
- New Zealand has "open skies" arrangements with China for cargo services (but not for passenger services) that are used by Air New Zealand to provide a twice weekly round-the-world B747F service that includes Australia-Shanghai-Frankfurt sectors with full fifth freedom rights. (The B747F is wet-leased.)

Thanks- what are the other cities to complete the RTW route- beyond FRA? Is the Australia port SYD? And is the B74F actually wet leased or an ACMI such as Atlas?

The full schedule is available here on the Air New Zealand web site. Apart from AKL the other cities are MEL (not SYD), Baku (tech stop) and HNL (tech stop). I think that the Frankfurt stops are still at Hahn and FRA once a week - a slot issue.
