I've been a long time lurker here and I know this topic isn't strictly what is normally posted - but I'm stuck and was hoping someone here might have some advicerecommendations.

I'm trying to get home to Ireland to propose to my girlfriend with my family there this March. The dates we're looking into are 03/22 to 04/01. Currently, on almost every site(sidestep, qixo, travelocity), the average fare is about 850 each with taxes. To me, that seems really high. It's not the 'peak' season, it's not Saint Patrick's Party time and I've travelled in the past at this time for around 400-500 each. Does anyone know why it's currently so high, particularly with fuel fees lower than they have being? I'm trying to see if I should wait longer to see if the fare comes down or just bite the bullet now in fear of it going higher.

The average fare has been as high as 900 earlier last week, I just don't get it for this time period, I've flown home at Christmas for less than that and that's normally when the jack the prices up to gauge the ex-pats flying home during the season.

So basically - anyone know why it's so high currently - and -should I just take the hit or see if waiting a few weeks helps.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to read and if you have any advice to offer, please fire away, it's a big trip for us and I'm just trying to make it all happen and not blow everything on airfare if I can avoid it.

Go raibh maith agat

Perhaps because of the Easter Holidays around that time?

KL / NA are doing fares from about 700USD, but you have to change in both DTW and AMS, I dont know id thats something you want to do or not.

You might want to consider going to the US equivilent of "Trail Finders" or "Flight Centre" as their fares can sometimes really good.
e.g. ORK-AMS-SFO-HNL-JFK-AMS-ORK for 950 EUR, in June. More than 150 EUR less that waht KLM.COM wanted. So the best fares are not always on-line!

Well good luck with the visit, and let us know what you do in the end.

Sorry, that is spring break time here in the US! I would avoid booking 3-15 to 4-15, but unfortunately that is not possible for you.

The proper term is "on final" not "on finals" bud...
