From a airport meeting we have heard that the A380 will do a visit to IAD on March 25th-26th. Only details I have is that LH is sponsoring the visit, the ac will arrive at 10:00pm on Sunday March 25th and depart Monday March 26th at 10pm.
Not sure why the arrival and departure are so late, but hey beggers cant be choosers.

I have to work that day, more than likely, so I hope to see it a few times around B Terminal. Since LH is hosting it I wonder if they are still going to try to use B45/47 for it... or if they even think they have a chance of it working out there.

So can someone just confirm that LH is going to JFK, ORD, and IAD, and see if they are also coming to LAX and SFO? I assume they are route proving their main USA airports. Would that include MIA as well?

I really hope that it will indeed visit IAD on the 25th-26th because I will miss out on her at JFK and ORD on the 19th and 20th.
Not that I doubt the source but I would like so hear some more confirmation like what has been given for JFK and ORD because I would like to purchase my plane ticket down to IAD as soon as possible.

My guess is it will be parked on the remote H ramp. I to have to work that day and hope to see it.
I wish UA flew mainline to MYR, that way you wouldn't be stuck in a smelly Saturn for 12 hours.

MMMM..probably so there is no need to deal with large volumes of moving traffic. Don't need to create a hassle airline traffic when it's just a promo stunt.

Quoting Gigneil (Reply 1): Someone coordinate an effort.
What sort of coordination would you like? I'm up for a local A-net gathering, since I know I won't be in JFK or ORD in March. However, I suspect the obs. tower will be closed at 2200, unless they make it a special event. If we want to do daytime spotting, we'd have to know where it will be parked in the daytime and what will be visible.
I think I might be a little late getting to bed on the 25th, maybe I'd better get the 26th off now so I don't have to call in sleepy.

I've heard that LH will be doing a VIP flight with the A380 out of IAD on the 26th - this is the time to catch it! Here's a quote from a Flightglobal article outlining the schedule for the IAD visit:
Quote:
The A380 would arrive at 21:30 and offload passengers before repositioning the aircraft to hard stand H15 by 23:30. The following day the airport would load passengers via a mobile lounge from Signature Flight Support at 11:50 and depart for a VIP flight, scheduled to return at 13:20. The A380 will depart the USA from B41/B43 at 16:20 with ground handling provided by Evergreen Aviation.
I'll be out there for sure and hopefully some of you guys will be there aswell!

If you are planning on catching it at IAD then I suggest you join the Washington-Baltimore Spotters Group ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WashBaltSpotters ) for the latest updates and info about where and when to see it. Cheers!

Well I am hoping for a 19L arrival, then i can see the A380 making an approach right from my house. Infact, you can get a good view from the economy parking lots too, if the arrival is on 19L. If 1R, then the best would be to take rte 28 toward centerville and take the Air and space museum/udvar -Hazy center exit, as soon as you take the exit, you can see the approach lights for 1R on your right.
I am not too sure for a rwy 12 or rwy 19R/1L landing (maybe the daily parking lots??)

Quoting Cadet57 (Reply 21): Ok, so what is the official date for JFK? Im on spring break so I may duck down for the day.
No official date has been set yet for any visits but supposedly the 19th or 20th is speculated for JFK.
Quoting Electech6299 (Reply 16): 24 March to JFK
25 March to IAD, landing ~2200
26 March depart IAD ~2200 for ORD
First time I have heard of these dates!

That would make a visit down to IAD to see her so much more worth it!

Thanks!!
Hmm, depart the USA? For an interim stop in Canada, or a direct flight to Asia? Were the ORD rumors incorrect, or is it flying JFK-ORD-IAD?
Not that is matters much to me...sounds like IAD is my place to catch it. Time to put in for leave and start praying for good weather

Thanks for clearing that up...So it looks like a lot of time spent at JFK!
Any word on where it's heading after IAD?

26 LHUSA: I believe IAD is the last stop. This is how I understand the routing over the couple of weeks that LH will partnership with Airbus. FRA-JFK JFK-ORD-J
27 Electech6299: Fantastic! I really appreciate the info... Poor LAX...
28 ORDRyan28: Yes, thank you for clarifying. Do you know of the time...a rough estimate..?
