Qantas and Air New Zealand have agreed to terminate their strategic alliance agreement, as well as the Tasman networks agreement, following the rejection late last year of their joint application to the Australian regulator.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) ruled on Nov 3 that it would object to an agreement between Qantas and Air New Zealand for cooperation on trans-Tasman flights, and for pricing, given the airlines account for around 80 pct of trans-Tasman passengers.

Nothing surprising about this at all. We all new it was coming.
What is surprising however is the small but still relatively significant shareholding that QF now has in NZ...
4.something% is quite a lot.
I think from memory up to 5% is ok without any sort of approval.
