I'm not suprised at those ticket costs. 40 seats on a CRJ what is the CASM for that? They need to charge higher prices to make some money. I will probably use this flight as my parents have moved from Sarasota to Layton which is 15 minutes from MTH.

At those prices, it would more than likely be a helluva lot cheaper just to fly into MIA (or even FLL), rent a car, and take the scenic route. No more than an hour and a half to two from MIA to Layton on a good day...If that. Just my .
Quoting Evan767 (Reply 3): So what's there to do in Marathon. Is it mainly just a beachy place? Or kind of a nice little town like Key West?
It's actually a very quiet town, nothing near the caliber of Key West. In fact, unless you had a specific reason to be there, chances are you're not going to simply close up shop, jump on the next flight out, and say "I'm headed to Marathon!". It really is just a pass-through town for the overwhelming majority of visitors to the Keys...Whether they're on their way to Key West, or on their way out:
However, that's not to say it isn't just a great place to go, if you're simply looking for a little peace and relaxation, or a nice retreat from reality.

I flew myself there for a day this past fall and was told by the taxi driver that everyone on the island either was or is currently on parole for something. Wonderful. But there is a very nice beach, I believe it is called Sombrero Beach. Aside from that I don't know what anyone would go there for...

Finally, not a low yielding route, if it holds.
Anyone know how it was doing 6 years ago? One would think not too good since the route was stopped? Maybe it was a plane shortage? TSA shortage?
ATL-MTH with $600-1000 fares probably has better numbers than ATL to some tiny European city on a 752, since most of the airlines in the U.S. are trying to make money off of Europe. Granted, great for traveller, but Europe is becoming less expensive than ATL-Florida.

What do you mean 6 years ago? DL didn't have any MTH service back then, let alone from ATL.
