If PVD has to loose NK to gain FL or B6, thats an ok trade in my book. WN has made it quite clear they do not really have an interest in PVD-So FLA.....DL (as DL express, then ended after 9/11) and NK have added it since 2000 and WN didnt respond either time. They are "dead end" routes for them (no feed either end).
It should also be noted that NK didnt even become the market share leader for PVD-FLL O&D though they were the only n/s provider, it was alot of connecting.
FL could do
3x ATL (DL slashed this market) Limited DL reponse because of BOS
1x FLL (2nd seasonal) no competition
1x PBI no competition
1x RSW no competition
TPA and MCO have a combined 2000+ daily O&D if they felt like taking on WN
Experience is what you get when what you thought would work out didn't!
What are the numbers? It's always disappointing when an airline suspends service, even if seasonally. However, I can't say that I'm too surprised. PVD isn't all that big and I imagine Spirit could easily deploy their aircraft on more profitable routes flying from much larger cities. Bummer none the less.
