Anyone have any idea why NW still has two 10s sitting across from the NW hanger in MSP on 2-20-07?
I drove by and saw the aircraft there, with the markings off. Sorry I was unable to get the regs. I thought NW got rid of all of them by now. Could these be some of the frames that ATA is getting? I was sick to see them, knowing that they may end up in the boneyard.
Thanks!

It takes a while for them to be removed from service.

They left scheduled revenue service on MSP-HNL on Jan. 7, 2007. However for the remainder of the month they flew some military charters and were used as operational subs. So in the past few weeks have been spent decommishing the aircraft - removing the NW markings, removing the NW equipment, etc.

I believe these go over to ATA in March, depending on which ones are still in MSP.

I've looked there are only one or two that keep on flying after Jan. 7 07. Now the NWA computer show them as parked. What dc10's go to ATA, I don't know?

Those two aircraft where the last two that NW operated post-scheduled service on some military charter work which I believe has now ended. They are 1234(N234NW) and 1237(N237NW) which will become N702TZ and N703TZ with ATA. We take delivery of both in March with 702 going into check in April and 703 in May.

The break down of ex-NWA DC-10s that we are acquiring are as follows, note that there will be no N704TZ:

1223 (N223NW) stored MZJ, may be used for spares or become N707TZ
1224 (N224NW) stored MZJ, may be used for spares or become N708TZ
1225 (N225NW) stored MZJ, to become N706TZ
1226 (N226NW) is in check now and will be N701TZ
1234 (N234NW) to become N702TZ
1235 (N235NW) to become N705TZ
1237 (N237NW) to become N703TZ
1241 (N241NW) stored MZJ, originally designated as spares aircraft, may be reactivated as N707TZ instead of 223
1242 (N242NW) stored MZJ, originally designated as spares aircraft, may be reactivated as N708TZ instead of 224

We're keeping 2-3 DC10's until June. We're still flying DoD charters with them.

I don't think so. NWA only has 1234 and 1237 left and TZ is taking delivery of them the last week of March and first week of April.

N237NW is at the hangar near 34th Avenue. Where is N234NW? Both of these DC-10s will not be scrapped, but the two DC-9s right next to 34th Avenue (if you drive on 34th Ave. towards the Humphrey Terminal you can see them) are definately being scrapped, I saw a truck carrying one of the engines.

I saw N237NW at a gate in MEM earlier this month... must've been operating some charter or something.

Presumably N229NW is going to be scrapped off, the tail on the ground presumably came from another DC10, any takers?

Are these two DC-10s still at MSP? The reason I ask is that there were two one-way DC-10 flights this week from MSP to MZJ. Flight numbers used were NW9752 and NW9750 and they left MSP on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. What's the dealio?

They're gone. Those two ferry flights were for N237NW and N234NW, respectively.

They are now in MZJ, per those flights. That is where NWA has stored the DC-10s in the past and where there is now 8 of the 9 we are acquiring. Over the balance of the year, you should see some TZ flight numbers for ferry flights from MZJ to SAT as they are brought out and put through heavy maintenance and reconfiguration. Though 2 of the 8 there now will "end their lives" in MZJ and will never leave.

As I was looking through photos I noticed that the NW/KL paint scheme was on N237NW! To bad I won't be seeing that paint scheme anymore, unless they put it on an A330.  Sad
