I'd love to go, but it would have to be a fly in, watch, fly out same day thing... Does anyone know if there will be a public viewing area/etc?? That would make the $300 airfare more bearable for my broke-ass-self.

I live in Santa Monica, so I will likely go. Do we have more detailed info? Is it for sure yet? I tend to spot from the lawn in front of In N Out, or else I go to Bradley. I suspect I would like to go into the airport and see the thing up close at a gate, rather than watch it land. Where is Imperial Hill? Will it definately be at a Bradley gate?

Looks like this will be good excuse to go to LAX on the 19th. (I live in the San Fernando Valley.) Looking forward to seeing Clutter Park (the Imperial viewing area) filled to capacity!!!! I'll be there anyway........

I'm in - with any luck it will come in midday so the 405 isn't completely stopped for my trip down. It would be really nice if we could find out what runway it will be landing on. If it's the North runways, I'll be camped out at In 'n Out!

Ok so just an update. According to the LA Times article, "around 9 a.m. March 19" and although I don't have any confirmation on this, it seems as though the plane will be coming from Europe and not Australia as previously thought. The article says that Qantas will have a crew onboard the flight seemingly implying that they'll just be passengers on this flight to LAX. Either way though, I suspect that the plane will be arriving on the south complex (25L/R) for a couple of reasons. (1) If 25L is done by 3/19 then I would think officials would want the plane to land there. (2) The south complex is a lot more camera friendly for news crews, etc. It's just a better vantage point in general to view the airfield. Officials estimating 100,000 people to see the plane arrive (we'll see about that).
But at least these many people out of those supposed 100,000 will be A.netters:
