OK, this is the greatest mystery evidently - but where DOES Delta fly ... I cannot seem to find a route map at www.delta.com . Am I blind or is there one on there?

Check here. You have to go under Plan A flight and then Destinations to find "Destination Maps.

Added information: Its not the greatest of maps.. i think it's time for them to move interactive.

On the German site there is a route map. I also checked the US page a few weeks ago and there was a destination map. It isn't done very nice compared to other (US) carriers.

Here is a destination map on Delta's website. http://www.delta.com/planning_reserv.../destinations/route_maps/index.jsp

Unfortunately, it doesnt show the individual routes flown from the cities.

On Delta's media site, they have a route map that shows all of the international routes flown by Delta. Thats found here. http://media.delta.com/images/96059_Delta_v6_48x28.25.pdf

I can somewhat understand them having a less interactive route map since they do have a considerable amount of destinations and if they had a flash based route map like what FL and B6 use, the routes into their hubs would be a huge blob on the map. But then again, they could do one where the user enters the specific criteria they want (Domestic or International routes, routes operated by codeshare partner, routes operated by a Delta Connection carrier, etc.).

Or they could do what US has done on their website and that is to show from each individual destination nonstop flights.. I mean, anyone who flies KNOWS if they fly Delta, they can take the ATL flights ANYWHERE.. but most would want to know where can I fly nonstop.. Check out US Airways map and you will see what I am talking about.. it's nice even if US itself still needs some upgrading.

Airlines fly such a multiplicity of routes that it's very difficult to draw the linear routes without having it look like a giant ink blot. ERJ is right; they need to be interactive especially for the large carriers.

I am truely impressed at all of DL's new international destinations, especially Eastern Europe and Africa. It seems ATL has become the new gateway to Africa which makes sense geographically. DL has really pushed the envelope to destinations that the other legacies would probably consider "less safe" economically. I would love to see UA get into the Africa market from IAD.

Congrats to DL.

The DL route maps are a joke compared to what is available to view on the AC site. They are the worst part of what otherwise is a very impressive airline website.

There are all sorts of interactive web solutions DL could use. If AC can do such a good job using a flash feature, so can DL. That said, none of the US legacy carriers have done very well in that regard on their sites. Being a GIS specialist by profession, there are many ideas I've thought of that come to mind. Many too complicated to discuss at length here in this forum.  scratchchin
