Hi guys,
I know there are a few posts regarding A380 visits to LAX,JFK and IAD, but wanted to start an ORD post to see if there are any other A'netters out there planning on attending the visit on the 20th of March.

Hopefully the weather will improve dramatically in the next couple weeks, otherwise ground crews at ORD will need to learn how to de-ice an A380.

Spring is coming???? Sick of the ice, snow, and cold up here in GRR......  cold

To tell you the truth, there have been so many rumours of dates and destinations of the A380 visits, I'm not sure when its supposed to be coming to ORD anymore! While it was confirmed by Airbus and LH, the ORD visit was only confirmed as tentative. So who knows whats going to happen. If it is eventually confirmed, and its on the 20th, I'll be there.

I heard the only runways it can come in on is 14R or 32L. Does anyone know good spotting locations for those two approaches?

Are you sure it's still coming to ORD? All the current PR's don't mention ORD at all, just JFK, IAD, and LAX.

Per the chicago Tribune, it is supposed to make a stop in ORD arriving from the JFK visit on the 19th..As far as I know it is still a go.

It's definitely coming to ORD on the 20th. It should land about 1:00pm and will be on the ground for about 2.5 hours. Not all of the details are confirmed yet, so that is why we've seen very few specifics on the ORD visit - but trust me, it's coming.

Not to question your credibility, but what's your source for this info? No reason to doubt, just curious. Shame though, I'll be at ORD on the 10th!

Too bad I will miss this visit if it comes. I look forward to seeing it though when it rolls on through ORD another time.

So noted, we will bring Spaten. Na zdrowie. Vivat.

BTW, only those from the UK or its former territories are allowed to call us Yanks.

And...I am German, thank you.

I'm pretty sure it's still up in the air right now. Last I heard it was not gonig to park at a gate, but would be somewhere close to the maintenance buildings. I'll post any info and soon as I get an update.

Ok, here's the latest. It's expected to be parked near terminal 5, but not parked at any gate. I suspect that it will be in the area where BD parks their plane sometimes.

Quick question, but a serious one (not being sarcastic): What is the purpose of these visits?

Are they trying to drum up some business for the struggling program? If so, I think it would be better to peddle a product that has actually met its performance specs. First impressions are quite important, and showing an aircraft in a market that likely won't order too many A380's too early in the process could prove to be very unsuccessful. That's the way my business works at least. I like to make sure I've crossed my t's and dotted my i's before I make a presentation. It simply hasn't delivered on its promises yet. I relate this only to the U.S. market. I don't question them showing it in other markets around the world.

On the other hand, I guess they have to do something. At least they are trying I suppose. From an aviation enthusiast standpoint, I would love to see the beast, but will the airlines?

Or are they simply trying to prove that these behmouth buses can be handled at these airports?

YEAH...

I'm all for having a get together prior to the mother-ship coming into the Windy City...

Perhaps a tail-gate party in the parking lot of the abandoned cargo building adjacent to rwy 22L? The parking lot is large, empty and right next to the rwy (and, no, there aren't any sign postings forbiding entrance to the lot). It would be a great location to spot any aircraft arriving on either 32L/14R.

Just a thought, my ORD brothers and sisters...

Overt enthusiast...like that's a BAD thing?
