Hello everyone,

I flew yesterday JFK-AMS on KL departing from terminal 4. From the Airtrain, i saw 2 LX A332 parked at Terminal 1. How come ? LX is normally departing from T4 like KL...
Was it exceptionnal for that day ?
Do they recently change their terminal at JFK ?
If so, which airline has switch their boarding gates with LX ?
Is it to be under the same terminal as LH ?

Thank you !

When i worked at LH at jfk last summer the move was already planned, it has allowed Swiss/ LH to consolidate operations and Passenger service functions in T1. Where LH still has their own staff and operations office.

Is the Swiss lounge at T4 still open? I know quite a few airlines use it.

I was wondering the same thing. Several other carriers use that lounge. Any idea who will take over it?

And speaking of lounges, I flew JFK-MEX with MX in C and therefore got to use the RG lounge before boarding... a terrible lounge, btw. With all RG's problems, will someone else take over the RG lounge too?

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

When did this happen?! Did I miss the thread on A.net?

This is going to make T1 VERY TIGHT during the summer, as I believe there is a time that Swiss has three aircraft on the ground at JFK at the same time.

There was a thread on NYCAviation regarding this topic.

And yes this will make things extremely tight at Terminal 1 this summer with:

6xdaily Air France
4xdaily Lufthansa
3xdaily Alitalia
3xdaily Swiss
3xdaily Aeromexico
2xdaily (3xdaily) JAL
2xdaily Korean Air
1xdaily Royal Air Maroc
1xdaily (2xdaily) Aeroflot
1xdaily Turkish
1xdaily Maxjet
1xdaily Air China
1xdaily China Airlines
1xdaily Olympic Airlines
1xdaily Austrian Airlines
4xweekly China Eastern

I would not be surprised if the Port Authority asks some airlines to move to Terminal 4.

Consider that, in addition to the 21x weekly MEX-JFK-MEX service, there is 2x weekly service PBC-JFK-PBC, so there is an extra movement twice per week.

Really? Well, we know that AF, LH, OS and LX are not going anywhere, as AF and LH own T1, right? I would hate to see AM move from T1.

If an airline was asked to move or if a request was made for an airline to move I'm sure the possible candidates would be JAL, Royal Air Maroc, Turkish, Olympic, Air China, China Airlines, and China Eastern.

I believe the 4 anchor tenants of T1 are AF, LH, JL, and KE - at least they were the original ones who grouped together to get T1 built (hence their logos are prominently displayed on the signs near T1) - since then I don't know what shares have changed hands, etc.

It already seems pretty tight now. LX has 3 A332s on the ground at the same time at JFK and usually two of them are remote-parked in between flights. Problem is - I don't see much remote parking space anywhere near T1 and there are also others which remote-park in between flights (e.g., the AZ 777 from/tp MXP which arrives early afternoon around 1pm and leaves at 6pm). At least at T4, there was a decent amount of parking space.....

Does anybody know if there is any plan to move KL to T1, to be regrouped with AF ?. This would be logical but of course only if there's some space & gates available at T1

Would be very logical but I don't think there is much space! Come this summer KLM will also have 3xdaily flights.

Your right, JAL was one of the founding members of the terminal so I take it back that they would move.

I agree except for MaxJet. I don't see MaxJet wanting to be in the same terminal as EOS.

Exactly...It's going to be tight.

Turkish, Olympic, and RAM will be prime candidates to move out of T1 because they have relatively quick turnaround times during peak hours (as opposed to Swiss or some others at T1 who have long turns)...

Also, let's not forget that it is possible they will move out of T1 and not into T4. Turkish might want to switch to American's new terminal...

Considering they are trying to join Star Alliance I don't see why they would want to move to Terminal 9.

Rumor is that 3 airlines will be asked to leave terminal1 and those are:
Olympic
Turkish
Moroc

Which will end come fall.

THY's Star Alliance code-shares start being implemented in March, with Lufthansa being first.

Star Alliance code-share will not help them at JFK, unless they want to move to T7. So it doesn't matter if they move to T4.

JFK terminal assignments are definitely affected by airlines ownership and/or M&A, but I wonder how decisive the alliance affiliation factor is?

Then it would make sense to have StarAlliance, SkyTeam and OneWorld terminals. Then TK would rather stay then leave.

Sure it does. Plans are for LH to take over TK ground handling from KE later this year.

Most likely Turkish & Olympic might move to T4. Then again, with AA's new facilites coming on steam, TK might move there, but I believe Olympic will most certainly be out of T1 by the summer.
