ExpressJet To Fly For JetBlue (B6)

Beginning next month, ExpressJet Airways will begin flying 4 ERJ-145's throughout the B6 system on a temporary basis. It is not a "JetBlue Express", but rather flying that will be contracted to fill the voids from 2 E190's that will be leaving the fleet each month for the foreseeable future. The planes leaving the fleet need new software to be programmed at the BNA EMB facility because their reliability has been atrocious of late. Once all E190's are "updated", expect ExpressJet to leave.

I suppose it is more than just a rumor now. B6 employees apparently received an email today with the news. Perhaps a B6 employee can post highlights of this announcement?

I was just thinking the same thing. They'll probably try to sue. They should try reading, it's incredible.

$25 vouchers to all customers on an XJT flight, and customers will be called in advance to advise them of the change. Initial routes appear to be BOS-BUF/IAD/CMH/RIC/JFK

Since this seems to be a move motivated by software quality issues on the relatively new 190s, who is going to handle the costs of bringing ExpressJet on board - JetBlue or Embraer?

I am going to have to say that this bill is going to be going to Embraer.

Perhaps the B6 customers will be the first to use the XM system if XJET uses the newly configured aircraft.

This rumor has been circling the XJET rumor mill pretty heavy today. I think this is a go. It will be done under our charter operation. It is very temporary as the original poster mentioned. Not sure which planes will be doing the flying. Most likely the XR's in the new paint. It would be nice for us to use the XM radio equipped aircraft to provide the best product for B6 possible for the small time we may be doing this.

I wish we had never bouth the E-180. We should have stuck with Airbus like the 319 or 318. These E-180's should be dropped to the bottom of the ocean. They would make a better ship wreckage sight than an airlplane...

Perhaps B6 will like Xjet so much they will use them to open up some smaller markets that the E90 are too large for.. on a true regional basis (500 nm and less)..

That would be nice, but we would need some more aircraft! I also don't think B6 is interested in doing that. But you never know...stranger things have happened.

I doubt they will still have 100% load factors because people in PIT are still stuck on an airline that dropped them like it was nothing. Everbody still loves US Scareways there. B6 should have known better going to PIT but were giving it a try....

Does anyone have the details of why the E190s have poor reliability? Are other E190 operators experiencing the same?

This is too bad for B6 really. Didn’t they also have to borrow some TZ planes recently as well? Are they going to be XE aircraft painted like Continental? That would probably be more of a shock to those customers then the plane itself.
On the other hand this is great news for XE. I was one who thought they would have great difficulty making use of the 60-something planes returned to them by CO. Not only have they made lots of good use for many of them in a very short time, but in addition to running their own airline they now have contracts with DL and B6 in addition to CO. Not bad.
