Spirit Airlines is really testing the limits of being trashy and cheezy these days... If you go to book a flight, since they don't have business class any more, the Spirit Plus was renamed to Big Front Seat and is still booked separately. What's next - their fleet will be officialy divided into big plane and small plane?

Since people go for elite status so they can upgrade to that "big seat up front", calling it "The Big Front Seat" strikes me as good marketing.

Spirit may be ULCC.. but they are not cheap.. I was looking to fly to FLL from DC.. and they were asking between $149 - $259 each way... for a non-stop flight.. those are not Ryanair-esque ULCC prices..

Possibly, although regular coach is called "Deluxe Leather". So do the customers want Big Front Seat or Deluxe Leather? Hmmmm... In any case I'm sure that's all they'll get since customer service is null and void - with every reason. CSAs haven't gotten a raise in 2 years, no 401(k) match, talks about customer service being contracted out (which is what they just did with maintenance)... Marketing stunts are all fine and dandy, but you can't expect to have a good and profitable airline when your own employees are treated so bad.

Those are the old fares. They just drastically cut their fares today because they are starting to follow the Ryanair model of "charge for everything", including all checked-in bags and drinks (except water) starting 20 June 2007. They will no longer have Spirit Plus service, which means even people in the "Big Front Seats" will pay for drinks and snacks. It will be very interesting to see what happens.
I'll be flying Spirit in two weeks for the first time in four years, and my ticket was a bargain. $298 for Spirit Plus, FLL-LGA-FLL.
