I know there are quite a lot of flights from MAN to the Middle East, but I was wondering if Gulf Air had a chance of operating to Bahrain or Muscat from MAN? It could codeshare with bmi perhaps?

Gulf Air, now more than ever, is in financial trouble and with their aircraft shortages because of the 767's out of service, it is not likely anytime soon that GFwill operate to MAN.

I doubt it...
I would guess that Gulf Traveller would if anything ... but then they said they would start BHX and where did that go ?
I think MAN is well served by EY,QR and EK..
It was mentioned in a previous post that EK would probably go thrice daily before UL started a service outside of London.. and I would suggest that the same would apply here... you'll see EK with more daily flights than new carriers start..
anyway... as QatarA340 said.. GF are in a spot of bother with finances I believe and available aircraft, so going into a route that is already served by 3 excellent carriers with a top notch premium product, would in my eyes be financial suicide..
However, my reasonings for Gulf traveller starting is that.. GF is popular with a lot of people transfering thru to OZ ..
Now, most of these pax are particularly low yield... so unless GF is confident it can attract enough premium class traffic, I would say that Gulf traveller would probably make a move before GF as this product is geared up more towards the lower yield pax..

Just my thoughts...  Wink

Joe..

GF use to operate in to MAN years ago using their 767s, routing via CDG IIRC. My boss at my old company use to use the flight when he worked the middle-east and he said there would be 30 people at most carrying on to MAN, so I can't see them rushing back to MAN any time in the near future. Think we are likely to see QR increase flights next.

They did operate 2 or 3 weekly to MAN in the 1990s but were unable to offer BAH-MAN due to bilateral restrictions. They had to offer AUH-MAN instead (routed through AMS).

Passenger numbers on the service:
1992: 02832 (started in November)
1993: 09105 (comparison: EK 45192). Think EK were 3 weekly then.
1994: 11059 (comparison: EK 68239 EK upped to 4 weekly.
1995: 18545 (comparison: EK 71971)
1996: 05020 (ended March)

Oh my god!!! Another posting from 8herveg asking about airline XY flying to XYZ. Every post you put on this forum wonders what the possibility is of whatever airline flying to whatever UK airport. Enough already!! You just posted a few days ago about Sri Lankan flying to Man. Do you just sit around and think up what airline doesn't fly to such and such airport and then wonder what the odds of it happening are? I fully expect you to post asking about the odds of NZ, or TN flying to Man. If I copied you, I'd wonder what the possibility is of QF or MA flying to Phx. I don't ask however, since I know it'll NEVER happen.

In 2003, GF had plans to launch a 4 weekly AUH-BHX service using their B 763s from May onwards but then that fizzled out without any given reason.

Ever since then, no plans have been announced for them expanding their UK operations.

Hey dude, no need to get your knickers in a wad. If the post bugs you, don't respond. This is an airline forum, airline related questions such as this will get asked here from time to time...  sarcastic

In regards to the OP, I personally can't see it happening either. GF is in a sorry state right now, not sure what their future will hold..

No need to be rude. Just as BHMNONREV said, this is an airline forum, your meant to ask questions! If it annoys you so much, then don't respond to the post! Some people are obviously not going to think the same way as you do. YOU might think that some of these services may never happen, but I don't know, hence me asking the questions! And no, I don't just sit around thinking of questions to ask. I am actually doing a degree at University, so there is no time to sit around. It takes me 5 minutes to post something! But just for the sake of not wanting to annoy you anymore, I will stop posting these types of questions! Happy?!!??

I too am convinced that they operated via AMS, for part of the time at least. My mother caught the flight twice in the mid 1990's and I do remember it went via AMS then.
