Does Cathay Pacific have different pilot pools for their pax and cargo 747 fleets? Also, are their dual qualified 742/744 pilots or is their a seperate pool for the 747-200Fs?

Pax 744 pilots "can" fly the 744F if they want, but pilots hired directly onto the 744F cannot fly the PAX 744 until they have reached the seniority to join the 744 PAX fleet, or Airbus or 777 pax fleets.

742 drivers are all on the "Classic" until their seniority is high enough to join the PAX fleet, just like the 744F guys.

There is only one guy dual qualified to fly the 744/742, he's a test pilot and only comes to fly the "Classic" when it requires a test flight, he flies with a senior/check "Classic" Captain in the F/Os seat with a senior/check F/E.

Is there a lot of difernece between flying them. The fully loaded 747F seems somewhat heavy to fly

Why the need for seniority to be able to fly in the pax fleet? Is it because they need to learn how to interact with the passengers or something? (shouldn't be hard, I think)

Wouldn't all 744 pilots being able to fly both cargo and pax fleets give the airline more flexibility in scheduling?

Quoting CX747 (Thread starter):

They advertise for freight and pax captains seperately, but I think the freight captains can work their way up into the PAX ops.

Is there one aircraft at CX that has more "senior" pilots on it?
