Lufthansa 744 Configuration - Why So Long?

LH has been offering it's new C/cl for more than 3 years now.

However, not many, AFAIK, of those 744 were reconfigured with the new C/cl seats over the time.

My guess would be that LH reconfigures the a/c on routine C checks, but then again, shouldnt we have been with more a/c reconfigured by now?

In the old configuration, i know LH has 3 layouts for the 744:
16F/64C/310Y
16F/78C/274Y
16F/99C/234Y

How can I know which layout has any of their 744 fleet?

Thanks,

Mike

There there apparently some problems with the seats and the IFE system (it's some idiotic Windows-based crap), but they seem to have sorted it out.

Afaik their 747-400 should be completely converted to the new C/Class soon (configuration 16F/80C/234Y)

That's a very interesting configuration... Qantas longhaul fleet have 3 main configures of 14F/50J/315Y , 14F/64J/265Y and 56J/356Y... Plus Qantas have cosmetic configurations too such as 64J/315Y and 78J/365Y...

All but 1 744 are completed. Should be done by next week.

There are two new versions that I am aware of...
16F 66C 270Y
16F 80C 243Y

There is also a third version listed, but I haven't seen this one deployed on any routes yet.
16F 52C 310Y

Yes, these conversions took a VERY long time. In the beginning there were HUGE problems with software and the mechanics of the seat. Installation was completely haulted while the kinks were worked out. Last time I checked there were 8 airbuses to be completed, but I think most or all of those are done by now.

This seems weird to me!

It means that at destinations like TLV, LH has 15 more seats on A346 flights than on the B744!!!!

That also means that the A346 is the a/c that carries the most number of pax in the LH fleet!

Anyone can confirm that????

And thanks for your replies!

Mike

747-400
16F 66C 270Y = 352
16F 80C 243Y = 339
16F 52C 310Y = 378

A340-600
66C 279Y = 345
8F 60C 238Y = 306

I understand the 52 config. Compared to the old 64C class row 15 is removed (-7), row 5 removed (-6), Seat 4D added, makes the difference of 12.

But I don't understand the 66 seat layout, yet.

It is actually 16F / 80J / 234Y and not 243, so at total of 330 seats - at least according to LH's website

And as to he J66 seating (which is not on the website/seatmaps page yet): that seems quite logical to me. Compared to the 80J you just take out the two last rows (-14 seats) and there you go.

Hey LHUSA,

I would really like to know what layouts LH uses on its 744 routes.

How can I find that out?

Do you mean a list of which versions fly on which routes? If so, I don't have anything like that, but I can always look up each flight individually. Just let me know if you want me to look something up.

After looking like this, it seems that there is more than just 1 744 to be completed. Unless the schedule hasn't been updated yet. You can see that the old C-class with 78 seats will be at MIA and TLV on and off through April 6th.

Yes, that is true. I was on D-ABVL LH779 CGK-SIN-FRA and that one was refitted and having new config which is 16/66/274. It was empty C class CGK-SIN but fullhouse SIN-FRA. also D-ABVS is in this cfg when I flew.

D-ABVH, which I flew FRA-NRT back last year was 16/80/234. D-ABVB/E/F/H/K/W, DABTD/E/L are the ones in this cfg as far as I know!!

Let's just blame it on yields.

Yes, starting today actually MAA will only see the new business class seat on the 744. The flight switches between the 80-seat and 66-seat version throughout the next year.

Great info LHUSA, I always thought LH uses the same configuration for each destination.

Using many different configurations on the same route, would you say this is all planned in order to serve the route according to demand, or just to help the airline routine?

Now i'm really curious to know with which configuration LH flies to TLV on LH690 (operated by 346)...  Smile

This is really cool

Thanks again for the info.

Most of the longhaul routes usually see the same configuration every day for the season, with some random substitutions here and there. I would say, the numerous variations you see in MIA and TLV schedules are not the norm. Now that the refits are just about done, we should see more consistency throughout the schedule. I can look up LH690 when I'm back at work tomorrow.

Nearly 20 744s were completed since December, so quite a few have undergone the refit in only the last couple of months.

Both BOM and DEL will have the new seat every day on the 744. The configurations switch between 66C and 80C. There are no plans for the A346 to BOM or DEL in the schedule.

LH690 will have the 2-cabin A436 (66C 279Y) throught October. Although a 3-class A343 is schedule for 4 days at the end of April.
