my exeperience with MS is quite old. between 1992 and 1996 i did some 10-12 trips with MS mainly on following routes: (business and Coach)
Damascus-Cairo 707, A320, 767-200
Cairo-Bangkok 743 Combi
Cairo-Manila 743 Combi.
in general and especially among arab carriers, MS is not bad but not to be compared with EK or GF. However they are improving.
Food is good but nothing fancy. Onboard entertainment is fair especially arabic music (for sure nothing of interest to you!)
If your friend has 10 hours in CAI i would strongly recommend he goes downtown to Cairo (either by cap or bus) and spends some nice hours in the bazars of Khan Al Khalili or at Midan El Tahrir (El Tahrir square), Cairo is great fun!

Oh yes. It's a good airline.
I've flown with them earlier this year and I found the servie on board to be quite good. It's the second best airline in Africa (first is South African) among the ones I've been on. What impressed me most was the cleaned interiors on the brand new A321 as well as the TV monitor showing the progress of the flight, even on a short haul trip! Egypt Air has brand new aircrafts such as the A321, A340 and B777. They also have A300's, A320's, B737's and 2 B747-300's. They should order 2 B747-400's to replace the 2 300's.
I like Egypt Air. Egypt is a beautiful country to visit.
