I am sorry if this topic has been discussed before but I have a few questions.
I am in the process of starting to apply for a postion as cabin crew. It is something i've wanted to do for ever. At the moment I am looking to apply to Virgin and Emirates. I just wondered if any of you out there are cabin crew and could maybe answer one or two questions. First of all, I have never worked for an airline or have any experience in this area but I do have customer service experiece. I wondered if never having worked for an airline will go against me? I'm also a recent graduate so my overall work experience is somewhat limited, although as I say I do have quite a bit of experience in various customer service roles. I also wondered if aiming for the big companies to start is a bit ambitious?
If any of you work for Virgin or Emirates it would also be good to hear from you.

Hi... First of all I work for BA, sorry to dissapoint you! But I will try and help you out on your questions.
What kind of Customer Service experience have you had? When I started flying, I had 7 years under my belt which helped me greatly as I could give lots of examples about my past in the interviewing process. Secondly, dont worry about aiming too high. I was shocked when I got into BA as I never in a million years thought I would get the job, but here I am and there is not a day that goes past (after 2 years) where I dont feel like the luckiest girl on the planet to be working with one of the Worlds Favourite Airlines (yeh yeh shoot me down, but I am proud)!!
Enough of me... heheh.. I really wish you luck in your career. If you ever need any help about questions, interviews or about the job itself, dont hesitate to contact me (even though I am the wrong Airline for you)!!

I know it is probably a little different at every airline, but at Hawaiian they look for people with the right personality...experience or not. I had very little customer service experience (recent college grad) when I got hired by HA last year.
As Southwest Airlines famously says, "Hire for ATTITUDE; Train for APTITUDE."
The basic idea is that as long as you have a good personality/attitude/demeanor they can train you to deal with any situation (and they do!!!).
My advice is to be friendly, professional and polite. The advice given to me by our own HALFA before my HA interview is that they look for the folllowing traits in applicants:

We look for the right attitude as well .. As in the end you can employ someone and train them up on the skills required but you cant train someone to smile..
In the interview process we look for people who smiles, shows a warm personality and also someone that can talk to anyone..
Also just be aware which airline you are applying for as every airline is looking for someone slightly different ..IE Out of LHR Air NZ base and Virgin and BA are all looking for staff but all will be looking for slightly different people.. I would say go read the airlines website and read about what each airline says it wants from it prospective cabin crew .. As you will need to tailor each interview to each individual airline ..
The best advice i can give is smile talk to the other candidates and also show you can listen as well..
