Emirates have been granted additional flights into JNB under the revised UAE-South Africa bilateral. As a result, eff 3 June, Emirates will add 4 additional weekly flights to Johannesburg (JNB). Flight details as follows:
EK765 DEP DXB 14.40 ARR JNB 20.50
EK766 DEP JNB 22.30 ARR DXB 08.30 (next day)
Flights operate on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
The new flights will be operated using B777-300ER aircraft in a 2-class configuration. Its most likely these will be the "ULR" designated aircraft offering the new lie flat business class seats.
The flights have been timed to connect well with Emirates Sub-continent, Australia and Far East flights. In particular the addition of 2nd dailies to PVG and PEK should connect well with these additional JNB flights.
As a result of the additional JNB frequencies, the MNL route is no longer going to upgrade to double-daily until additional crewed aircraft capacity becomes available. In the period from end of March to beginning of June, the MNL route will have a number of extra flights.
Also Emirates has some additional B77W (high density) capacity available which is being earmarked for the Jakarta (CGK) route. Once the revised bilateral is signed (which according to Indonesia manager Jon Rotikan is going to be "soon"), expect the morning nonstop CGK to move to a daily operation from the current 3x weekly. As a result CGK will be operated double-daily.

Yes you are correct about JNB's performance. 2 of the 45x A380s have already been allocated for the JNB route. Under the new bilateral Emirates have been granted rights for a daily Cape Town service. This will most likely be started in 2008 once new aircraft arrive or earlier if additional crewed capacity becomes available.
