Egyptair , the National carrier of Egypt , has unofficially launched its new website with an online booking engine just 3 weeks ago . And because I was a planning a trip to Hurghada out of Cairo , I took the opportunity to book the tickets and try the online booking system and share the experience with A.Netters :
First of all , it only took less than a minute to book
The fares vary a lot not only from day to day but from flight to flight ( the day I am flying had 3 flights between CAI and HRG and the fares vary from US$59.00 to US$86.00(round trip) of course I opted for the lower fare which happened to be the most suitable to me ( it was the early flight from CAI dep 6:15 and the return was the 10:50 flight from HRG )
I also booked the seat I wanted . The booking system offers many ways to deliver the ticket :
1/ You can pay online and the ticket will be delivered to you by express mail ( only to addresses in Egypt for now ) .
2/ You can pay online and pick up the ticket yourself from any Egyptair office ( only in Egypt for now ) .
3/ if you choose not to pay online , you still can book your tickets online and go to any Egyptair office within 2 days to pay for your tickets and pick them up .
4/ And the most convenient way is the E.Tickets ( which I opted for ) .
Egyptair offers the online booking only if your flight is leaving from an Egyptian Airport for now , but it would be possible to book for any flights system wide in the future .
Seconds after I finished the online booking , I received an e.mail from Egyptair with the itinerary and the reference number . Just to be in the safe side , and because the online booking is something new to MS , I decided to send their call centre an e.mail to make sure everything went fine .
3 hours latter , I got another e.mail with the E.Ticket .
The following day I got a response to my first e.mail from the call centre saying that everything was fine and the tickets are confirmed . But when I went through the E.Ticket , I noticed that the seat I requested was not there , so I sent them another e.mail and only few minutes latter I got a response from their call centre confirming the seat I requested .
Honestly , I was impressed , first of all because they responded promptly to my first e.mail then they responded to my second one only minutes after I sent it . The only drawback is that the seat I requested should have been already allocated to me without having to contact them again . All in all , an excellent experience , excellent , prompt and efficient customer service . The online booking system is very reliable , quick and efficient .

Now this is a heck of change from the last time I tried to use Egyptair. Now so long ago, they were a horribly squirrilly proposition to deal with. I speak from specific experience, not generalities.
If wishes were horses, a Tail Dragger I would fly...

I am sorry to hear you had a bad experience with MS , but bad experiences can happen with any airline . In addition , since 2004 , the Airline has improved a lot in both on-board and customer service . I have flown MS many times without a single problem and all I found was on time flights , excellent catering and modern, clean planes . If you try them again , I am sure you will change your mind .
Quoting Cedars747 (Reply 3): Salut MSYYZ !
Me too,I am very impressed.I will try to use it in the future. Thanks for posting
Salut mon ami , by the way , I expect a trip report for your upcoming event . I will try to write a trip report , it is time and effort consuming but I will do my best .

Quoting Cedars747 (Reply 7): Any news about Egyptair joining Star alliance
We are still waiting , no news yet .
On a side note , Egyptair used to have a different pricing policy for tourists travelling domestically . Tourists used to pay a higher fare than Egyptians and foreign residents . This practice does no longer exist , when I booked my ticket online , I was not asked about my Nationality .

MSYYZ, thanks for sharing your experience. The airline has interesting plans for the website however it will be a gradual process before it is fully implemented.
As for the online booking system, in the first month of operation over 4,500 bookings were made through http://www.egyptair.com/ which surpassed all expectations and very significant when you consider that a) there has been no marketing of the new website and b) bookings are currently restricted to travel ex-Egypt.
