CNN reported at about 4 pm today that a flight from Korea arrived a short time ago (Monday, March 26) at EWR from with 85 sick passangers. They were complaining of flu-like syptoms on it. No further info at this time. May be food posioning. (Guess they shouldn't have had the fish).

Message too short
The message you were about to post is too short and probably not of any higher value to the topic at hand. You should think long and hard before posting a message in this forum and make it detailed and a valuable addition to the topic discussed.

Avoid posting "Me Too" messages. These are messages that are posted by people who agree to a point being discussed and post a one liner, "me too!", "Good post Jim!", "I disagree" or similar message. This takes up time as readers must sort through these messages which have no real value to the group at large. Any message containing nothing more than a line or two of text is probably not worth posting.

If you have an opinion on a topic, you should in detail express why you have the opinion and what made you come to that conclusion.

CNN Headine News is now saying the flight came in from Hong Kong, and that the 85 were part of a group that had taken some kind of a river trip somewhere....

So what happens when the plane gets to EWR? Do they quarantine it? Do they bring the pax to a hospital and keep them there?

Correction as just noted at 4:25 pm on CNN - it was a CO flight from Hong Kong. (also corrected the title) A f/a noticed a group of pax with flu-like symptoms. Doctors and EMT's from The NJ (Univeristy) College of Medicine Hospital in Newark has been called to the airport and will probably deal with the sick pax. Apparently most of the 85 sick pax were on a river cruise some where in Asia and that may be the source of the illness.

Malaria is not a big cause for concern when traveling in mainland China...although bird flu is. I'm sure the CDC is on alert right now.

Just spoke with a crew member who worked the flight. There were about 80 or so people who weren't feeling well (coughing and the like) and as a precaution, authorities were called in. Standard thing to do. Too many variables to not be cautious.

MSNBC is reporting that the authorities are detaining all passengers on the flight while they determine the source of the illness. Interesting note -- the destination of the 80 (says MSNBC) passengers reported to be ill is Montreal. Montreal was of course the biggest site for the SARS epidemic back in 2003. Watch out Montreal!

I hope they determine the cause quickly so the other passengers can either get treatment or be on their way. What a fright for them all!

As opposed to us here on A.net who have so far blamed the Koreans, the fish, the Korean sushi, the kimchi (whatever that is) and malaria!  duck

Ummm, kimchi is not sushi and Koreans don't make any attempt to copy it anyway.

Can you imagine being one of the unaffected pax that still had to be quarantined on arrival?!

Excerpt from the MSNBC web article:

"The final destination of the group, after switching planes in Newark, is Montreal, Canada."

Of course, that doesn't mean the people aren't actually going to Toronto. Nice that nobody has the facts!

So this is a CO 777?
