Do KLM's 744 Have New C-class Seats?

Just wondering whether all of KLM's 744 have been re-configured with the new Buisness class seats that debuted on their 777. Any info would be helpful as I am planning a IAH-FRA flight in the near future.

By the last count, 7 of 22 aircraft have now been reconfigured, consisting of 3 out of 5 full pax versions and 4 out of 17 combi versions. The latter service the AMS IAH route. The following frames have been reconfigured with the new seats:

B744 PH-BFA
B744 PH-BFB
B74E PH-BFD
B74E PH-BFI
B74E PH-BFM
B744 PH-BFN
B74E PH-BFO

I was on one of the combi's that has been re-configured between YUL-AMS in December (there was an aircraft subsititution). The WBC on the second floor was great, really enjoyed the privacy - hope you get it!

No, and they will not get them. The MD11 will get PTV/AVOD as from end 2007/early 2008.

That's VERY common for the KL671/672 AMS/YUL/AMS. Standard the flight will be operated with a MD11, but quite frequently the flight is operated with B747 (combi and full pax). Last Sunday a B777 did the job.

Indeed a very common occurrence on the YUL route, and I predict even more so during the new summer schedule, the peak of which will see the MD11 fleet used heavier than ever before.

As for the B747 retrofit program, KLM has publicly stated that all 22 aircraft will be retrofitted by the end of 2008 only, but at the speed the new cabins are currently being installed, I would expect this to be completed faster than expected.

why will the MD11's get the PTV's and not the 744. I though they were planning on keeping them longer than the MD 11's! It would make more sense.
As for the MD11's, is it true the will get the 3-3-3 configuration ?

It was an apparent weight issue which is precluding KLM from installing the IFE system in the B744 fleet.

All 10 MD11s have already been reconfigured to such a configuration, yet the IFE system has not yet been installed. This process is to take place during the 2007-2008 winter schedule. As for this summer schedule, all MD11s are scheduled to fly and no extended hangar time has been scheduled.

According to KL, installing PTVs in the B747 will ristrict the available payload too much. Keep in mind that most KL B747s are Combi aircraft, so very important for KLs Cargo Ops.

Yes, that's true. All KL MD11 are now flying with the 3-3-3 configuration. Also, KL increased the number of M-class seats in the MD11 from 251 to 270 seats. Since KL couldn't limit the seatpitch any further (it's only 31"), the number of C-class seats are down to 24, from 31.
