Looks like Delta will be upgrading their 2 flights daily from TUS to ATL to a 757. The SLC routes are all the same though. Just a boost for the summer traffic I guess.

I would figure there would be a downturn in TUS traffic over the summer (snowbirds leaving).

You're right! I have no idea why they are upgrading in the summer....it is TUS's slow season. Perhaps they are looking for vacation travel, meaning people LEAVING Tucson to go someplacer cooler! hehe

What's the change... the ATL flights are 757s already?

IT has to be the exodus FROM Tucson, believe me, going to TUS in the summer is the last thing anybody wants to do, of course, going to Atlanta in the Summer is not any better, so it has to be all the connectors out of ATL.

I noticed that about a week ago when I was looking at getting a ticket to see my uncle in Tucson. This is good news for TUS and a sign that DL must be doing very good on the route. Congrats to TUS and DL!

That's good news because Delta has trimmed 1 flight to ATL and 3 flights to SLC within the last couple years. Its always nice to see that the carriers are making money on their routes.
BTW, Im hoping for a new year-round flight from NW to either MSP or DTW.

DL has operated a variety of A/C on this route. I think they are as follows (my paper schedules are at home, where they should be and I can't access them to be sure): It was 757's in the beginning, to a mix of 727's and 757's, to all 757's again, then to 738's, then MD-88's, then 738's again, and now a half-year upgrade to 757's. It seems they were over ambitious in the beginning (2x daily n/s to ATL, 1 red-eye to ATL, and 2 n/s to CVG on mostly 757's) then they began to tone it down. The CVG flights were dropped, the ATL red-eye gone, till we were left with the 2 daytime ATL flights. They also downgraded capacity to match demand it seems, but now demand is higher for them.

I am curious, when did DL have flights from TUS to CVG? I work close to Tucson International Airport and enjoy watching the midday 757 landing. Also, has has come up in other theads, the Aereo Litoral daily flight from Hermosillo has been upgraded from the Saab to an RJ.
There has been a number of upgrades in TUS over the year. Frontier replaced its to RJ flights with Airbus. Southwest is adding another Midway flight and JetExpress is beginning service.

IIRC, the aircraft type was supposed to revert back to 738's in early June, but that date has been pushed to August.
Are there high/hot performance issues at TUS that necessitate the 757?

My dad took a trip to LAN in 2000 from TUS with a connection in CVG so I don't think it lasted too much longer, id say they ended the service around 2001-2002.
