Hello,

Please advise when your encyclopedia comes out, I could be a potential buyer !
(hope you don't take it as an offense)

Timetables can be an option if you need these kind of info. Otherwise subscribe to Flight Intnl.

Thank you,
Best regards,

I know that TAP flies to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo using their A340s and to Fortaleza, Natal, Recife and Salvador using A310s. TAP began flying the Lisbon-Sal-Rio de Janeiro-São Paulo route in 1966 using Boeing 707s. In 1967 Recife and Buenos Aires were added to the route. In 1972 after TAP got it's 747-282s they began being used on these routes. In 1978 Salvador was added as a destination. After 1983 Lockheed L-1011-500 Tristars were used on flights to Brazil. Since the mid-90s these flights have been flown by A340-300s and A310-300s. Since 1999 Natal has been a destination. TAP's current schedule looks something like this.

1. Lisbon-Rio de Janeiro: 3/7 A340 (Tue, Thu, Fri).
2. Porto-Lisbon-Rio de Janeiro: 1/7 A340 (Mon).
3. Lisbon-São Paulo: 4/7 A340 (Sun, Wed, Fri, Sat).
4. Porto-Lisbon-Rio de Janeiro: 1/7 A340 (Tue).
5. Lisbon-Fortaleza-Salvador: 2/7 A310 (Mon, Wed).
6. Lisbon-Salvador-Fortaleza: 1/7 A310 (Fri).
7. Lisbon-Recife-Natal: 1/7 A310 (Sun).
8. Lisbon-Recife: 3/7 A310 (Mon, Tue, Wed, Sat).
9. Porto-Lisbon-Recife 1/7 A310 (Thu).

Im sure Brazil is a very profitable destination for TAP as Portugal and Brazil have very important cultural links.

Hello,

Thanks for the information DETA737!

And well A350-200  ... As many people here I love the aviation industry and I'm always eager to learn more.
I know I ask for mant questions  , but I reply and share what I have learned with a great pleasure.

Now making a "Chronique de l'aviation"... Mmm I would need time (and much more knowledge).

I'm used to gather timetables and read Flight International among others from time to time. But unfortunatly what I'm looking may not always be in timetables or magazines.

Best regards,
Alain Mengus

TAP does not currently serve Buenos Aires. They began flying there in 1967 as an extention of their route to Rio and São Paulo. I know they still flew there in the 1970s but I'm not sure when they stopped flying there.

You 're right, some info can only be found here on forums. And I have discovered here that some people where far more hooked by aviation than I was.

The problem is that it requires a lot of time to read all these posts, provided that no specific query is made on a particuliar subject: so many posts are just so boring and stupid ... (especially in case of accidents !)

I think this forum is a very good pattern of what internet can bring: best and worst things.

Regarding aviation, I'm so happy about my frequent air travels! Moments of peace in a hard business week !

But when I travel for leisure the destination is now more important than the trip.
Only one time in Bali I took a couple of days watching planes while lying on a small boat: really worth it, reminds the AF 743 picture in St Maarten!

Regards,

Airbus A3XX.

Hi!

I was out from my place on this weekend so I now came to see what was new so I hope this not too late. I want just to give a little bit about TAP services to Brazil. As you know Portugal and Brazil always had a great relationship so it was quite obvious that an air service should start, indeed this was after the war and the first airline to serve this route was Panair with L.049 Constellations. TAP also when they started they had in mind openning a service that's why they bought 4 C-54A's Skymasters, the problem was that this plane had a lack of range and never could be used to Brazil, some study flights where donne during the 50's but nothing regular until TAP received the L1049G's, then a protocol was donne with Panair and both flew that route, TAP with the Super Constellation and Panair with the DC-7C, latter when TAP started to receive their brand new B. 707's Brazil and Africa where the first routes to have that service. With the arrival of the B. 747 TAP again used the plane to Brazil, Africa too and USA, Canada never used the 747, only the 707. When the 747 and 707 where sold TAP used the brand new L1011-500 and when these where sold the A310-300 got the lead until the arrival of the A340-300, from next year on TAP will probably start with the brand new A330-200!
Sorry about the delay!
regards!

I was looking at the Varig site and under their gallery of former aircraft they mention that the L-188A Electra II operated the "Vôo de Amizade" (Friendship Flight) between Rio de Janeiro and Lisboa with stops in Recife and Sal (Cape Verde). I was wondering if they had already acquired Pan Air by the time they started flying these flights with the Electra II in 1962.

Hi!

About your question infact VARIG in 1962 didn't acquired PANAIR, what did happened with PANAIR was that they where declared banckrupt in 1965 and by then VARIG received their international routes like London, Frankfurt, Paris, Rome, Lisbon and whatch this....Beirut!!!
Before that VARIG had already acquired in August 1961 REAL and their rights to fly to Mexico City, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles and Tokyo.
So for me that VARIG flights are in one way quite stange but also very interesting in a historic point of view because it was not common to see an L188 making a transatlantic flight to Lisbon, perhaps those flights where leased by PANAIR who knows?
regards!
