Hi people,

some time ago I read an article about the new airbus A330-500. It was said that Lufthansa could be an expected customer. But in a different information it was said that Lufthansa instead of it would first want to test operating Boeing 757-300 from it's airlinedoughter Condor. Does anyone knows some details about this topic ?

regards Ol

Airbus created a number of A/C based on LH specs.

The A 310-200 and the A 340-200 were both largely made per LH specs, both proved to be not exactly what the market wanted. The bus company cannot really be blamed that they do not repeat past errors. An order from LH for some 10 or so custom made 250 seaters for domestic use does not really make economic sense, who else except SQ may order them anyway. Orders from SQ may have some prestige attached to them, however you never know if and when and why they change their mind.

Testing 757-300's as a means to potentially replace something LH originally specified just to put some pressure on Airbus is kind of, well, you know what I mean. The 330-500 Airbus came up with is likely based on realistic market requirements. A result arrived at with past unsuccessful requirements of some airlines such as ...

Cheers
Peter

They are currently testing a B757-300 on the FRA-MUC leg as far as I know.

The above picture is interesting because it was taken in Newark!!! I thought they were only going to test it on intra Europe routes... BTW this picture can also be seen under photo id, 123077 here at airliners.net, different photographer though....hmmmmm.

I think AI has overlooked the 200 seat market. They have the A321 to 180 seats, and the A332 to cater for the 250seat market. 200 seat market, hello Airbus?!?!?

LH, SQ, AN and NZ are looking for aircraft in the 762/3 A335 class.

I can't remember the A335 specs, but as far as I know, it's an uneconomic plane for short domestic routes. Little wonder LH is more interested in the 753. Who is actually interested in the A335?

Why didn't the A310-200 succeed? The 767-200 didn't do too badly last time I checked? Maybe AI just didn't get the product right, not the market.

I suppose, at the end of the day, the A3XX is more prestigeous for the egos at AI, than a simple old 200 seater "replacement".

Cheers,

Justin

Gyro,

The picture is a "fake" as mentioned and another person uploaded it to airliners.net illegally. I justed emailed Johan to have him remove it. Yes, the shot is Newark, of a CO B757.
