I just saw an advertisement for AOM French Airlines new service from LAX nonstop to Noumea, New Caledonia, 2 x per week. I think this is great news for South Pacific lovers as previously it was pretty difficult to get there from the US requiring a transfer in Papeete to Air Calin's 2x weekly 737 flights (stopping along the way), or a transfer (and long wait) in Sydney or in Nadi, Fiji. So I guess their 5 weekly flights from Paris continue on to Papeete 3 x and Noumea 2 x per week.

This new flight starts 4 Dec or around that time and will be operated by an A340-200. The AOM flight to Papeete will switch to a A340-300 on 2 Jan. LAX-NOU flight will leave at 1500 so it will be easier to get pictures of AOM A342. The777Man

I'm guessing that this is more for the benefit of French citizens traveling to New Caledonia via the US. I doubt if 9 out of 10 US citizens could even garner a guess as to its location (except perhaps WW2 veterans, let alone take a vacation there. Does this mean that Sri Lanka and Sydney are off the route map of AOM?

I think yes, Colombo and Sydney are off the AOM network. Because most of the passengers on the ORY-Noumea flight just wanted to fly to Noumea and not to Colombo or SYD. So from 4Dec there will only be 1 stop insed of two.
