2 AA MD88 In ATL Near The Hangar

Any reason why AA would have 2 MD88s in ATL near a hangar? They are parked far way from the terminal. Would these be transfering to DL?

Dont know why the AA MD80s are parked in ATL......but DL is not buying second hand MD80s from AA. Consider that AA operates MD80s, DL operates MD88s with a more advanced cockpit.

No chance they are going to DL. They are most likely MD-82's, which have different engines and a different flightdeck than the DL MD-88's. Maybe they are a charter for the NCAA, who knows.

There's nothing quite like a tri-jet.

Saw them last night, if I'm not mistaken they are overnighteed for the early run to DFW, MIA and ORD. I've flown the early run on a 737 to MIA though.

This is true. AA has been parking planes on the north ramp for years. It is not uncommon at all to see them in the middle of the day. I have no idea why.

Our ExTWA MD-83's have all the bells and EICAS screens like the Delta-88's and the engines have all been up tuned for run as -219's. But yes there still different than Delta-88's

AA parks their overnighting aircraft on that apron that is between the hangar and the Renaissance Hotel. When I stayed at the Ren a couple years back American overnighted a 737-800 and two MD-80s. When I flew into ATL a couple years back I saw an AA 752 being towed from that parking area to its gate.
