according to Metis TransPacific website (http://www.metismacau.com), they hv bought 2x 747 and will start non stop service between MFM and YVR from June, 2007.

can anyone confirm this? i personally dun think there are enough O/D traffic between MFM and YVR.

anyway, is nice to see the first North American Destination for MFM.

cheers,
YLWbased

Interesting!

The website shows 3 flights per week in June only. The website is not that informative. Although one of the pics of the 744 clearly shows it landing at YVR unless this was super-imposed?!

Does anyone have any more information on this? Will the flights continue past June 2007?

This was one of the routes Harmony was eyeing a long time ago when it first considered Asian flights.

It'll work if it's considerably cheaper than CX's HKG-YVR, for those looking for cheap fares you can just hup on the boat from Hong Kong and go to MFM. From China, if they work with Air Macau they could offer bargain fares to Canada.

If they really do begin service I'm sure the vast majority of their passengers will be to/from HKG, no doubt at low fares to offset the extra ground transportation. MFM is only 23 miles/38 km. from HKG.

They built a very expensive airport in MFM but haven't had much success in attracting carriers to use it. It's still heavily underutilized as far as I know. It's certainly one of the more unusual airports.

please don't forget an LCC - Oasis Hong Kong Airlines will launch HKG-YVR in June. Fares is HKD$1000 (CDN$148) +Tax/ Oneway. if this Metis TransPacific wanna beat their price, i dun think they could last long. plus their price have to be real real low, coz a one way ticket on MFM-HKG High Speed Ferry cost another HKD$140 and 1 hour of time.

as i metioned above, Oasis Hong Kong Airlines is launching HKG-YVR n/s on June with a unbelievable CDN$148+tax one way. if metis wanna gain HKG passenger on the route they will hv to be hell a lot cheaper then that already very cheap price. although MFM-HKG are very close together, but there are really only 2 forms of transportation between this 2 cities: 1) by helicoper, if bagage restriction and cost HKD$1400 for a one way ticket; or, take the highspeed ferry, which you cost you another HKD$140 on top of your YVR-MFM ticket, plus as i metioned, 1 hr of your time, plus the extra charge on your bagage and the extra time you hv to spend on the immagration (MFM and HKG hv different immgreation system).
i'm a FF on HKG-YVR, if u ask me will i ever travel YVR-MFM then take the ferry to HKG then take the bus from the ferry pier to home for an other our and make my trip up from 13hrs to 15.5 hrs? absoluly NO. and i know 90% of the Hong Kong People are willling to pay more just for convinence and service qulity. lots of airline (Air Asia just to name one) tried to operate out of MFM and hope they can get most of it's traffic from HKG, but after spending millions of dollar in Hong Kong for advertising, they end up hving around 5-10% of HKG passenger. doesn't this explain the story itself?
i would also consider MFM as a successful regional airport. it is currently served by Air Asia, Air Macau, Viva Macau, Transasia, Uni Air, China Eastern, China Southern, Tiger Airways to PEK,PVG,CAN,TPE,BKK,SIN,KHH (just to name a few) on a regular basis. I would call this imprassive for a city with roughly about 400,000 people.

The website seems to be good enough to cast a doubt on it.

They are going to operate a 3 class service on a charter flight??? That is almost unheard of in this day
and age. Even the respectable Front line carriers are going away from a 3class service for the most
part. There are only a few business destinations that can sustain a profitable 3class service
level, and a low cost charter flight would not seem to be one of them  confused

Where do you get this information? YVR is not even listed on their website yet. I reckon that if they want to start in June they would have to beging selling tickets now. CDN$148 each way makes no sense to me. Please provide source.

does CDN$148 HKG-LHR make any sense to you, Mr? don't judge people so quickly. Oasis is currently opreating CDN$148 oneway on HKG-LHR and they are going to stick with this price on their YVR operation, from my inside information, it will be nothing more then CDN$200 for a one way ticket. believe it or not, i dun like ppl questioning about my inside source, you have your own right to believe it or not. is totally up to you.

As for Oasis YVR opeartion starting date, it hasn't been confirmed yet, they are still trying hard to get the started on June28th. but nth will be announced b4 the recieved their 3rd aircraft from ANA later this month. plus they are trying to obtain approval from government(s). this involve with lots of Business Secret, that's all i can provide right now.

for those who trust me, just wait and see. for those who dun, just shut up and wait.

Actually, metis refers to a person of mixed race. In Canada it normally means someone who is part Native Indian and part Caucasian. The French word "metis" is related to the Spanish "mestizo" used in a similar context. Metis is also a satellite of the planet Jupiter and a character in Greek mythology. In any case, I agree that for a service to Canada that name would be highly undesirable as the word often has negative racial connotations.

A few dictionary definitions of Metis:

1. A person of mixed racial ancestry.
2. A person of mixed Native American and French-Canadian ancestry.
3. A crossbred animal.

--a person in western Canada who is of Caucasian and American Indian ancestry

--Classical Mythology. a Titaness, the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys and the mother of Athena by Zeus. Zeus swallowed Metis, and Athena was born from his head.

--The satellite of Jupiter that is closest to the planet.
