When that new a340 comes out (can't remember which) which competes with the 744, will they buy it? What range does it have? Will they also replace their 767s?

Thanks
Max

Air Canada just ordered more 763's, they are not going to be replaced.
People have been speculating about the 717, although this has no facts to back it, to replace the Dc-9's and 732's.

They just painted CP's 744's, I suspect they intend to keep those for a little while longer.

I dont see them all airbus anytime soon.

Air Canada is a launch customer for the A340-500, but they were also the LC for the -600, this was going to be the 744 replacement, that have since dropped that order and increased the -500 order. They are keeping all of theire 747's including the 4 from Canadian, and are looking to probably get about 3 more, this means Boeing is not totally gone at AC, The 767's are also staying on, and are one of AC's favourite planes, they have gotten about 3 or 4 more in the last couple of months. The 717 is also a BIG contender for the DC-9/737 replacement on the thin routes.

Just curious as to why AC ordered 767 instead of 330. They have 340 in the fleet already.

Just wanted to add a question; I don't really know the details of this, but there was some rumblings about former Canadian PM (or his cronies) getting bribes from Airbus. Whatever happened here?

Watewate:
Air Canada is very happy with thier 767's and Im glad they didnt replace them. The A330 was ordered to fill in the capacity gap for the transatantic routes, as they are flying now from YUL and YYZ.
The 767 can fly domestically for them and do the high capacity transborder flights not to mention the european, caribean and asian destiantions, its perfect cause you can bring it anywhere. (The arrival of the A321 may change this)

Air Canada already has the A330. Its hardly used outside the transatlantic sector, and has little use for AC on the North American routes as well as the asian routes.

Hopes this cleared everything up.

The 330 would be too large to substitute the 767-300. AC is waiting on Airbus for the A330-500.

AC does have A300-300s in its fleet already, but the 767 is a smaller capacity a/c and that's where it will fit in routes where the load factor won't support A330s. And that includes quite a few transatlantic routes out of YYZ and YUL and transcontinental routes like YYC -YYZ.

The former Canadian PM who was accused in the Airbus scandal was Brian Mulroney (I hate that &^%$#@ idiot!) back in the early 1990s. I don't know exactly what happened, but it involved A340-300s for AC.

So I guess PM Mulroney (allegedly) took a nice kick back for himself whilst AC was a crown corporation? I have no proof that he took the money, but it must have been a substantial sum of money- big enough to put his career on the line.

The AIrbus Scandle was with regard to the A320's that the government ordered when Air Canda was still a crown corporation. It involved the prime minister, his governmetn, and a certain Canadian/German business man, who brokered the deal with airbus....many people, including myself believe that this is the major reason that AC is now a plasic (Airbus) airline as opposed to Boeing.
