On N Airfield Dr, directly underneath the approach for 18L, there is a small bluff with a few picnic tables. Signs are up stating it as FP, and a gate that was locked with a sign that said "Open during daylight hours only". The road is paved up to the gate, but not beyond, so perhaps they are just waiting to pave the rest.
Oh, It's going to be a great summer. I love this new location.

I can't wait! That sounds like a great location. Is it west of the runway a little bit, so that we might get decent shots in the afternoon? I'll have to go check it out soon.

I'll check it out Thurs. So far I don't know anything about it. Just that I was told that FP would re-open when the SW portion of the perimeter taxiway was completed. If what you say is true, it would be very good for spotting given that Summer is coming up and there will be a great deal of South-Flow Traffic...

Wow! That is so cool! Let's go there today guys! We can hold hands as we walk together to the FP in the SW next to the TP.
Seriously, wtf are you talking about?
Cheers, Coal

Founders Plaza is a nice public viewing park. I've been there twice but I still prefer the cargo area for spotting.
I'll have to check it out the next time I'm in DFW.

It is east of the approach for 18R, so not awesome for photography, except before noon or 1.

It has been closed due to the new perimeter taxiway construction. Now the new one is on the northwest side of the airport (old one was southeast).
I drove by it just a little while ago, on Tuesday afternoon. I agree, it looks almost ready to go. Maybe they could do a bit more paving. It is east of the centerline to 18R, probably lined up with taxiway F, would be my guess. It's pretty high up on a bluff, so that's nice. One thing it will lack is it won't be overlooking a taxiway like the old one did. It's north of N Airfield drive. But being on the north end will really improve it, since most landings are to the south anyway. Plus, being on the West side, that's where all the cool cargo 747s come in from ANC.

I was sad to hear the old one closed. I loved that place...Nothing like watching the Euro heavies leave in August off of 17R...

Well as far as I can remember this is only temporary. In the plans for the perimeter taxiway, Founders Plaza is going to be moved a little further south from it's original location. Last time I drove by the flag poles and plaque are still there while all the concrete has been torn up.

Went by today and the gates were open, so I drove on up. Man, all I can say that this is a real embarrasment as is. Gravel "parking lot" with 2 picnic tables and 6 huge concrete trash cans placed in a fashion that looked to prevent theft of the tables. I am sure this must be temporary, and am glad to finally have an "official" place to go, but I certainly hope they have bigger plans in store.
