Last week the president of Portugal flew on Continental Airlines from Newark(EWR)-Panama City(PTY) on a 737-800. My question is why would a president of any country want to fly with a paticular airline, I thought all presidents had their own private jet.

Queen Elizabeth and her people had onced traveled to China on a BA767-300 in the Union Jack Scheme. She also flew a 747-400 with the same paint scheme and one with the crown scheme(prior to world colors) Princess Diana traveled First class on a BA 747-200 and a few times on Virgin's A340s and on a 747-200

Well the Head Honcho in Australia utilises a couple of Falcon 900s or, when they are not breaking down, one of two 707 VIP transports.

These will be replaced by Boeing BBJs and, I think, Gulfstream VIP, on a contract with QF.

When Queen Elizabeth II travelled to New ZEaland, she travelled on a NZ 744. They fitted out the entire first section for her, complete with double bed. The first some other passengers knew they would be travelling on the same flight as the Queen were the extra security checks involved when departing LHR.

Apparently when the Queen come to NZ on Air NZ, just did it as a publicity stunt as the British Papers at the time were critising her spending habits.

But, at least she flew our flag carrier

God Save the Queen and all that
Hurrah!

I flew from Atlanta to Zurich last year on Swissair, and one row in front of me was former US President Jimmy Carter, with a body guard.

Don't forget that when he comes to the US, the Pope often flies TWA.

The pope has so far flown on TWA's 727-200,747-100, L-1011 all specially reconfigured for him, his poeple and the press traviling with him. All the planes were in the Ichan era color scheme. I think the year was 1987 or later

From my mom:

"In the mid 90's, President Fujimori of Peru (who resigned last week) boarded our NRT-PEK flight. He came with an entourage of military attaches. Very nice individual-easy to please. He signed a UA postcard for you, remember?" she said to me.

"The Tongan princess on my SFO-LHR flight a few months ago was returning to school over there, I believe."

"Matchbox 20 was also on the inagural SFO-FRA flight in Business with me..."

"Years ago, domestically, the Prime Minister from New Zealand flew with me between LAX and SFO," she said. "Before the Prime Minister boarded, we had agents with ouzi's (sp?) boarded the flight and checked out the cabin."

She added, "President Ford was a delight, having him on my flight from LAX-MCI- to...somewhere...with two sets (day and night) of secret service. When we stopped in MCI on our way to our final destination, quite a few FBI agents with two cars met the flight, whisked Ford down the jetway stairs, and just before departure from MCI for the final leg, Ford and his entourage were brought back aboard."

Both the Pope and Queen Elizabeth have flown on NWT Air in the 1980's and 1990's in one of their 737-200's, chartered and configured in a 16J 77Y. It was probably the smallest airline in the world to boast that distinction.

Makes me sick to hear about all this xtra business arranged for presidents, PM or religious leaders - they are all payed for by taxpayers moneys - they are just mortals like all others. Why bother to give them special service priviliges. They can fly on any old commercial airliners like the rest of the people!

As for the Queen of of UK getting first class ection to her self:
Talk about "much ado for absolutely nothing!"
