I was on the beach in TLV this afternoon when I saw, I think, an Eva Air 744 about to land in Ben Gurion, it was about 1.35pm. AFAIK EVA AIR does not fly to TLV, so do you know what was that plane doing there today?

Yep, there are 2 EVA Air @ Bedek, currently being converted into Freight version. They went today for some test flights, one landed at 10:15AM and the other at 1:45PM. Reg was - B-16462. Hopefully I won't be eating lunch next time when I see him landing just 10 meters away from me ...

I just checked BR's LAX-TPE sector this fall, 744s will be completely phased out, ouch! I'll have to fly through SFO next time. I just returned from Taiwan flying BR's 777, while the cabin is new and the IFE's better (more choices and interactive), give me 744 any time as 777 is a lot more turbulent, if you're used to 744's ride, you're probably spoiled. I really hope BR reconsiders other VLAs for LAX, NRT and HKG (748 or A380) as LAX can easily use double daily A380s.

I used to fly CX business class but company impose travel expense cost reduction.
IMHO, BR 777 is good on business class (finally they are catching up the industry trend, I use the word 'catching up') HORRIBLE for ELITE class (previously called Economic Deluxe), WONDERFUL on economy class.
Let's talk about ELITE class. It looks modern but when you sit on them, especially when the seat reclines, you ends up in a uncomfortable seating position, as the seating cushion moves as well. You felt like someone just lifted you up from your back. I hardly caught any sleep in such seat. B747 seat, although conservative look, give you a good recline position. Economic class seat is wonderful, right seat pitch and recline (this time, the seat cushion also lifted up but not to that high of an elevation) You actually get a firm seating position that reduces fatigue. I 'down graded' myself last time and enjoy the ride very much.
B777 has a quieter interrior noise level than B747. I think the reason is that the air-con on B777 is much more better and advanced and does not create so much noise during air circulation. B747 is just plain noisy!
I did not notice any difference between the two during flying when encountering turbulance.
Last but not least, AVOD on B777 is quite good. B747 is ancient or non-existent.
Last word of EVA AIR service. IN one simple word "BAD" I got a cup of instant noodle after pressing call button 3 times and one of strange thing about EVA crew is that when you provide some service, in their mind, they never thought about collecting the trash back from you. cups, plate whatever, it is like the service is done already. Took me 1 hour to finally get the cup noodle away, after sitting on my tray for 40 minutes.
People in Taiwan worries about CHINA AIR safety but almost everyone will tell you that CI service is so good.

I hope my company switch back the previous travel expense rule. This is my heartfelt statement for someone like me, who never flew EVA, and becoming GOLD in 4 months time!

I thought B-16462 was being converted into LOPA configuration?
