Why Have Alitalia Stopped Serving MAN?

Could someone please tell me why Alitalia stopped serving Manchester, England?

Did they serve both Milan and Rome?

What were the schedules?

Any chance of them returning? Would be nice for MAN to get some decent European airlines, instead of the low-cost carriers all the time!

AZ were getting good loads on twice daily MAN-MXP, initially operated by 320s and then ERJ170s, but they were in direct competition with BA Connect operating 3 times daily. There's now flybe operating twice daily (should get good yields judging from their incredible prices) and Jet2 to BGY, for the paupers amongst us.

Probably little chance of AZ returning, they're in a continuing financial mess. I'd call AY, SK, KL, SN, AF, LH, OA, LX, FI, LO, OK, EI, BD, KM, AB and HLX etc. very decent European airlines!

You'd include OA in that would you?

Can't blame them, after that package ManU gave them in the Champions Legue Big grin

But seriously, if they did not make money on the route, a carrier like AZ cannot afford to continue serving the destination.

If they did, I'm sure they'd have to get an entry in the Guiness Book of Records in the category "Most attempts by an airline to fly a route successfully" as they've tried and failed 4 times!

And if they did return, they'd probably need to look at their ti,imings so that it presents business travellers an attractive alternative to that of BE's timings.

Please God they don't ever come back.

On my days off, I switch between Naples and Manchester when I can.

Never ever, not once, not even close, did Alitalia manage to get me and my bags from/to Naples together and on time.

Monarch's scheduled service last year to Naples was a godsend, but sadly that has been dropped this year also.

Thank God for Thomsonfly this summer.
