This is the word from MEA's representetive in Kuwait City during a press conference promoting Lebanon for the summer 2007 season.

MEA's flight to Kuwait will be tripled to 3x daily during August and September.

Despite last year's conflict and the airport being closed for about 2 months, MEA still managed to show $40 million in profits.

If the situation stays as it is now, another good tourism season awaits Lebanon.

Really?! I am glad that Lebanon's tourism industry will improve. I am going back this summer to see my Dad for a week but I was told that the Beirut Central District was a ghost town?

Is MEA going to continue with their fleet purchase of 8 aircraft? What about an order for regional jets? E170s ?
Andthe addition of the airline into Skyteam?

Rumors are that Israel will attack Lebanon again this summer. I hope it's after I've left in June.
What this will mean for MEA and BEY is worrying. The tourist economy is in tatters and their is political deadlock in the country still.

However, MEA has the most experience in operating in difficult circumstances and will survive!

Sounds like good news. 40$ mn for last year, 85$ mn for this year. As usual for Lebanon it means that potentially we're looking at a fleet of 50 aircraft and more like 500$ mn but no one dares thinking of it any longer.

Downtown is no ghost town, I was there last week. Sure it's quieter than pre-214 but it's not dead. The political situation is a stupid deadlock and I got the anonymous voice that politicians should all really be pushed into the sea. God forbid another war, I don't believe the Lebanese will take that path, I hope their neighbors and self-imposed chaperons will be as visionary.

Still dreaming of MEA to reopen BRU one of these days. A319 would be enough, like 3 times a week.

When is the new fleet slated for delivery anyway?

What?? I was under the impression that things has calmed down, but then again I dont live on Israel or Lebanon so I dont know what the actual situation is like.
Do you think its likely that theres going to be another attack?

I don't think I'm being selfish in wishing that I am out of the country when Israel attacks again- if you had the option, I'm sure you would think the same!

Not that it's your business, but I have lived in Lebanon for a long time, my father lives in Lebanon and lost his family's apartment building in Herk Hrek last summer. I was booked to fly to Beirut the morning the airport was bombed, I lost an uncle and cousin in the civil war and an aunty last summer so NO, I am not being selfish to want to be out of the country when it kicks off again.

I am very sad about what's happened in Lebanon, but I have the oppurtunity of safety in England!

I agree with you Raffik but the way you put it sounded a little careless. I know what it's like for Lebanese living abroad and how they feel towards their home country, we all want the best for Lebanon. Please no offense taken there mate!

No offense taken! I really wish the best for Lebanon and during the war last summer I felt terrible. I watched CNN every day to see what was happening. My father was evacuated on the warship to Cyprus. However, alot of my family weren't able to leave and we were all very worried about them.

Quoting Emirates029 (Reply 7):

I read it a few times in the Lebanese news. If it's not from Israel, I worry that there will be a civil war again.
Either way, I don't think we've seen the last of it- things are still uncertain in Lebanon.

One day perhaps! I look forward to the addition of new long haul routes- Canada and America would be great!

Great news for MEA. I hope that the Israelis do not bomb Lebanon as it solves nothing and turns people against the perpetrators. I have always had respect for MEA as they are fighters against all odds. I hope that the Cedar Tree flies for a long long time yet.

Just wondering, are they expecting increased tourist traffic? I sure hope that the downtown district will be opened up to foreign tourists, because as I understand it, many of the restaurants and shops have had to close down, and when my dad was there a few days ago, he said he was questioned as to where he was going and what he was doing. I sure hope that the people who are camping out in the down town district realize that they are doing nothing but slowly destroying their country and economy.

Hope the best for MEA. By the way, do they have the metal to add frequency to 3x daily to Kuwait?

Finally they got approval from the Saudi authorities to increase frequencies to daily on this flight. They have been wanting to increase this route to daily for a few years now.
