Could someone please tell me when Air Canada's XM Project will be complete?

What is the current status of most of the aircraft?

Obviously the B777s are done.

Some of the B767s are done I believe - how many?

What is happening to the A330's and A340's. Arent the A340's being replaced by the B777's?

What about the short-haul aircraft? They too are getting the XM project am I correct?

And finally, what about the B767's which do the low density premium routes across the atlantic, such as MAN?
They do not get the International Executive First, they get the Domestic Executive First sold as Premium Economy. Will these aircraft get refitted too and receive the New Domestic Executive First? Are they aircraft also used on Domestic flights? If so, are the Economy seats the different to the International Economy seats?

Any comments appreciated.

Many thanks.

As for the 767s. They had four lines going and are down to three lines which will delay the program by a further 2-3 months. The problem is that's three-to four months on top of a rather open ended timeframe. I wouldn't even guess as to when it will be done.

The 320s are coming along nicely. It seems around four airframes a month are done.

The 340s are not getting them done as they are leaving the fleet. The two 345s are speculative as they are on the market to be sold and other than USair kicking the tires a couple of weeks ago in YYZ there is no real firm idea as to when they will leave the fleet.

The 330s are staying for awhile and I am not sure of the plans to XM these aircraft at all.

With a project like this the company had an 'idea' of a timeframe for completion but that timeframe like Elvis, has left the building. I heard 87 320s will be done, all of the 763s. I'm not sure of the -200s as I had heard some will be done and others won't.

You can find a list of the aircrafts that have or that are currently undergoing refurbishment here.

So far, it seems like AC are refurbishing the original CP/AC 767-300. Does anyone know if they intend to do all the 767-300?

Takeoffs are optional; landings are mandatory.

Yes except for the two that are leaving the fleet.

One has already left. FIN 652 is being returned to the lessor this w/e after a paint/refit in AMA.

The A330s will receive the XM upgrade.

Keep in mind that the 767-300 refurbishment obviously will have to slow down somewhat over the summer months, when AC is keeping those 767s busy on its increased international schedule.

The 340-300 are going, the 500's are staying, at least for the time being. I don't know where the rumors of them being up for sale started, but according to the Prospectus for the Air Canada IPO (I can't remember where I saved it at the moment) the 500 are not scheduled to be removed from the fleet for about 5 years.

The 330's are scheduled for the XM treatment starting in 2007. Most of this will depend on how fst the 777's can be used to cover exisitng lift requirements.

They're gone as of September, actually.

The 345s are up for sale. They have been nothing but a headache to the company. Their huge fuel burns and very iffy dispatch record are reasons they won't be missed by many.

I didn't know the 330 was to get the XM but my prediction is that AC will make a big order announcement by months end firming up options. If that happens the 330s time left will be based on delivery dates of the new aircraft. If they get some earlier slots I would not be at all surprised to see the 330 XM plans tossed into bin 13.

The 767 XM project is restricted to 767-300ERs as the remaining 767-200s will be leaving soon.

Are the 319s and 321s included in the XM project? Can't see why they wouldn't.

Yes they are and in fact there are a couple of refurbed 319s already flying. I think they get priority on the YYT-LHR route.

Actually re-read that ad. They're avaialble for lease.....not for sale. At any rate they are still planned until the 07/08 Winter sched.

The 319's started going though XM at the start of this year, 321's are scheded for later on this year. Not all of the 319's will be done though as some of them are planned to be returned to the lessor as more E90's (or E180's as we like to call them) come on line.

Both of these were also ETOPS certified (Fin 286 and Fin 287) and will probably be pretty much used only on this route (or connecting routes). Not sure if there are plans to do any further 319's modded for this, but there is talk of using the 319's on other longer thin overseas routes.

They routinely deploy a 319 on the YYZ POS CCS route, I assume that would be ETOPS? That route takes some long over water segments. Anyway be nice if thaat route starts to see an XM 319 sooner rather than later.

I thought AC leased the 345s but apparently they own them. They bought them for 87mil a piece. Whether they lease them out or outright sell them who knows but the bottom line is they're on the block and will be gone soon.

They could replace them sooner depending on 777 deliveries. I doubt they'll get enough lift prior to the end of the summer sked to get rid of them but the mere fact they show in the fall sked means nothing.

As for the 320s and the XM, when I say 320s I mean the 320 family.

As for the two ETOPS 320s, they are the only ones being refitted. In fact there's only one on line right now, the other is due out soon.

POS CCS are ETOPS benign operations requiring only 75min certification which requires very little in mods. To fly the Atlantic you need a minimum of 120mins which requires a whole mess of stuff. There are zero plans for refitting any further a/c as this summer is going to be a feeling out process to see if 319s on the Atlantic is viable.
