found this on you tube.... i was shocked to see the part when the jets are around the 346 with those huge contrails coming out.... anyone seen this before? what were they doing? its obviously some sort of display, but where was it and which countries took part in it?

And does anyone else have more footage of the demo?

According to what I read on the link you provided, it was a public display of the Indian Air Force showing off their newer Mirage 2000s. The scene with the A346 (really nicely done, btw) was most guaranteed to have been planned and not just a random event.

Is that 340 having some kind of pods under the wings almost at the wing-tips?

This clip comes from a french movie called 'Les chevaliers du ciel'. The movie was made in cooperation with the french Air Force which helped in providing the air to air footage.

I don't why it is posted on YouTube as being Indian Air Force footage. The KC-135 and Alfajet kind of give it away.

The aircraft with the wing pods is the KC-135 tanker. Those are wing mounted refueling pods.

I actually saw the movie a few months ago, on SQ I believe as a foreign film, and it is GOOD. For a.netters, put this on your must-see list, the story line is very good, the action sequences believable (ok, 0.99 believable!) and if you care to look at the following trailer, Available on the film website here, the cinematography and actors are something to look at. Does anyone know where it can be ordered in the US as a DVD ?

Amazon Canada has it, and will ship to the US.

I have this movie on DVD, called Sky Fighters in English. I think the shots are fantastic. All footage of the aircraft is real, no badly mounted computer sequences, models or anything like that. It is probably the most realistic aviation movie I've ever seen with regards to the actual cinematography. And the story line is quite good as well.

Consider this for a moment. Great video, but can you think of any reason for apparent formation flying with a civilian 340 other than to mask evidence of the approach of the fighters? Not a novel idea, but maybe not the best one to put in the minds of pax either.

I can think of one: to make a movie.  mischievous

The movie also contained footage of the Farnborough Air Show. Did the Qatar A340-600 attend that air show or did they shoot the formation flying footage while the aircraft was on a test flight ex-TLS?

As a few of you have already written, these are all sequences taken from Les Chevalier de Ciel, but they are not in order and you don't have all that ''obvious'' advertising for Airbus in the movie (I think thew A340 has no livery in the movie so only aviation enthusiast could recognize it). The scene with the A340 was planned, you can see it in the preview. To make a long story short, a Mirage 2000 was stolen from the Farnborough Air Show was simply hiding underneath the A340 so it couldn't be seen by radar. The acting is ok, not the best I've seen but certainly not the worst. In air scenes are really good though. I would recommend it to every aviation enthusiast like us.

As Laxintl said, you can order it from Amazon (as I did myself) but make sure you have English Language on it as I've heard that few DVD of this movie only contains the original language (French).

The first tanker was a 707. Then there was the AIRBUS A346 and the last plane I am not sure if this was an A346. Check the movie at 2:21 min. It looks like a 707 too for me. It would be new for me that A340 has this pods under the wings and it has no winglets. And it looks too small for an A346.

It more looks like this bird from Singapore Airforce

Hi Tom,
It was a 707 refueller, the French AF has a few, it was in the movie when they are flying over the Med to go to Africa in a cannonball (see the movie) and again in formation flight approaching Paris.

I was only reffering to the A340 which the stolen Mirage 2000 was hiding under. I was just wondering if it had any livery or not in the movie. Although, thanks for sharing the information on the tanker as I am not to familiar with these.

Nice video! I like the A340 scene! Also the music quite suits the video clip. Thanks for sharing.

Some scenes from the film appear in quite alot of different video on youtube, often causing alot confusion between people.

It's funny to see the people arguing in the comments section under the video. It's getting a little crazy there.

I am corrected. Did not realize fighters now refuel or escort from positions tight beneath the wing box.

On the DVD I have, the A346 is in the new Qatar Airways livery. Don't know if it is some special version of the movie though.
