According to the Belgian Newspaper De Standaard KLM and Sabena are talking about cooperation, initially on the flights between Brussels and Schiphol and maybe for flights to Johannesburg, a destination to which Sabena won't fly anymore as from next year because of high losses on the route. The talks were confirmed by a press officer of KLM. Previously there have been rumours about a tie-up between KLM and the SAir Group after the collapse of first the cooperation between KLM and Alitalia and later after the collapse of the talks between KL and BA.

KLM/Qualiflyer sounds very very good. The Asian partner MAS would be perfect too. But what do they do with their American partners? KLM won't give up NW...

Leave it to us American's to be the stickler in every partnership involving KLM I think SAir will have a much easier time leaving AA then KL would with NW if something is to materialise. KLM is apparantly desparate to pair up with someone, first AZ, then BA, and now SN. Hopefully, third time's a charm.

I don't know why KLM is anxious to cooperate with a European airline...look at Skyteam..KLM/NW/MH!!!! they're almost there don't you think? The routenetwork is extensive ..the only thing left to do..build up a bigger network. KLM more European /East Euro and North African destinations. NW more South/MID Atlantic/South Pacific and MH more destinations in the Far East..then you have the same thing..
should work great, I know enough about the structure within KLM to say they should learn from the past as they seem to forget and focus on other things to survive

ZRH: You're right..I wanted to point out that KLM does not need a Euro Airline but should look global..they're codesharing at the moment and this works out great ..so this would be a strategic (future) partner...but that's also for SAIR Group.

KLM has a realy great alliance.
Northwest in the USA, Malaysia in Asia (they have several code-shared flights), Air Kenia in Africa.
I think KLM should look for a South American Airline e.g. Aerolineas Argentinas or how about VASP?
And now Eurowings is splitting up with KLM so they can serve LH I think KLM may look for a new partner in Germany or erect a new affiliate company called KLM Deutschland.

KLM has a codeshare-agreement with Transbrasil And Vasp within Brazil and KL flies to LIM/GYE/UIO/CCS/BUE/SAO/PBM and Dutch Antilles. I think they are well presented in South ATL.

SAir's informatic company Atraxis just steped into the Malaysian market. They do (from next year) all the IT problems which MAS has...that's not just peanuts! For me Swissair and KLM are about equal MAS partners.

It suddenly becomes obvious:
AA and NW Will merge as already rumoured and planned by AA.
KLM will join Qualiflier
MAS joins Qualiflier so they also keep their ties with KLM.
KLM and Sabena have always had good ties with the almost Merger in 1987 and 1989 (the latter together with BA).
Sabena will retain it's flights to Africa, that is it's speciality, KLM is very big in South America, Asia and middle East, 3 regions where Sabena and indeed Qualiflier is weak. KLMUK would give Qualiflier the needed presence in the UK.

A330: Your idea is not bad, but one correction: Swissair is not week in middle east and asia at all. In fact it is quite strong and has many flights to asia, for exampla: twice daily to Japan, twice daily to India, daily to china, Hong-Kong, Singapore, Bankok and many more flights.

If AA/NW would go through I'm quite sure that AA would leave OneWorld. Just have a closer look at this alliance:
Swissair, Sabena, KLM, TAP, LOT,...
AA, NW
SAA, Kenya Airways
Lan Chile, Transbrasil/TAM
MAS, JAS, CX?
