Question: What is the gate space situation at FLL? I have no doubts that Spirit could make money on these flights, but logistically, is it possible?

Because we know that NO airline would EVER over schedule at an airport...  Wink

NK are really expansing out of FLL. Any word on the FLL-POS launch yet?? It was mentioned when they last announced new destinations!

They still don't have Trindad government approval.

Can FLL F.I.S. handle all those future NK late afternoon, early evening arrivals?
I know NK runs a kind of FLL hub operation at those times but doesn't it seem that NK is pushing on the number of international arrives that FLL could handle at the same time?.

NK has been spreading out some of the existing and much of the new international arrival times in FLL. There is still a spike between 5 and 7pm, but there is a few early in the morning and even afternoon and late evening arrivals as well.

FLL-BAQ 1050-1330
BAQ-FLL 1430-1715

Wow! I definately could see BOG-FLL coming in the distant futere, but not now...it will for sure bring fares down, even though AV is not charging a lot. I will be interesting to see if the two services will coexist, and i think they will. Glad to see a new US carrier in BOG.

About BAQ-FLL, it is an amazing oportunity for NK, as the BAQ-South Florida market needs extra capacity (the daily AV MD-83 is just not enough). They will make good money if they know how to adertise themselves.

I am sure there is a market for a second BOG-FLL flight, specially Spirit can offer several conecting destinations ex FLL

Avianca and Spirit will be able to co-exist. Remember, Avianca offers on-ward connections from Bogota that Spirit will not. A significant amount of Avianca's FLL-BOG traffic connects to Peru and Ecuador.

Well, not really. They applied with Trinidad officals in late March, not even a month ago. They applied with Venezuelan officials in November, and it is still pending.

I too am pondering what delays there will be for connecting pax!. On my last flight, the line extended to the back of the aircraft. It took us one hour to clear immigration.

This is very interesting news indeed!

I have no doubt that, with their low cost model, and thus, very attractive fares, these new services will be a success.
Spirit would be using all of the 14 frequencies available to US carriers to Colombia, according to the bilateral agreement.
I guess that other Colombian cities will follow, though an update in the bilateral will be required (I am not sure if the current Free Trade Agreement under negotiation between the 2 countries includes a chapter on aviation)
However, CO are not using all of their allocation. They'd better consider what they want to do with CLO (or add MDE - which I think that they should give a go), or Spirit might come after spare frequencies.

Spirit say that they would be ready to start operations very soon after they are given the rights.
Recently I was asking myself what would be the next carrier to serve Colombia. The answer lies in this thread. I now wonder which one will follow... TAP could do well in connections to Europe.

but is there enough O&D traffic from Colombia to Portugal, Colombia is a total different matter than Venezuela were we have a big Portuguese community, I think a LH back in BOG would be more logical for LH and for *alliance

I was thinking Star alliance precence, and since LH seems reluctant to put its planes back in BOG, TAP might be helpful.
But yes, the O&D is probably not string enough, and if there is enough demand from Venezuela alone, it would be pointless to tag a leg to BOG on the CCS flight.

Does anyone know what is going on with the FLL-LIMA service. Haven't heard anything about it. Are they still going to fly to Lima eventually?

It should be bookable next week. Peruvian authorities are set to give Spirit the go-ahead to sell tickets in a few days. They will also be flying to Chiclayo, Peru.

I am surprised there has not been more of a response from AA.

I believe there was quite a tussle over PUJ prompting AA to add a second daily flight as well as a price war at SKB.

After all the DAL/DFW drama from Legend Air to the present Right Ammendment saga, I would expect AA to protect MIA like a lioness with her cubs.

This has got to put the pinch on some AA's more profitable routes.

FLL to Barranquilla is interesting, why morning south and afternoon north though ? IT would offer better connections to New York with a late afternoon south, overnight in BAQ and morning back north.

Spirit is not going to let a plane set in BAQ overnight. That is a waste of valuable aircraft time. Spirit tries to achieve maximum utilization. The FLL-BAQ flight will connect to LGA just fine.

Indeed, the turnaround time at BOG is just 50 minutes. Pretty tight. But that is their model: "ultra low cost". Food and drink are for purchase too, of course.

I would like to see it become real. Having that option is always healthy and it will not conflict with Avianca's service bt it will help with the rates...(IMHO).

If I have done trips to BOG for US$300 in AV from MIA and FLL and LA and AA from MIA, imagine having NK from FLL with even better rates.. I will go twice as much to Colombia....  Smile
