I will be traveling to Istanbul this summer and on my way back i will need to connect from T1 to T4. My flights will arrive at LHR at around 4pm, how much time should i give myself to collect my bags and recheck in to T4 (i had to buy a seperate oneway ticket to my next destnation, sucks i know).

What is the possibility of BA (both flights will be on BA) checking my bag all the way through to my final destination?

ýf you are going to check out at T4 and then check in again at T1 or vice versa at least 3 hours. If BA checks you all the way through at least 90 minutes.

Worth a try, but as you haven't bought a connecting flight ticket, checking your bags through would imply that BA will honour your connection, which they may not want to do, for operational reasons.

As for arriving in T1 and departing from T4, at least 2 hours between touch-down and pull-back, to allow for baggage delays, etc, would be prudent.

Don't forget that from T1 arrivals, you can go downstairs to the Heathrow Express, which operates as a FREE shuttle between T1/T2/T3 and T4. Trains depart from T1/T2/T3 station at 03, 18, 33 and 48 minutes past each hour, takes about 5 minutes...

DO I have to go to T4 to check in or could I possibly do it at a transfer desk in T1, then go to T4

I've never noticed any kind of check-in facility for pax transferring to T4, but there's a BA desk in the baggage reclaim hall in T1, so you can ask them... There is a Flight Connections centre in T1 arrivals BEFORE you get to Immigration, but that's only going to work if your luggage has been checked all the way through...
